Change oil light?

Well, my moronic Alero thinks it's cool for the "change oil" light to pop on after 2k miles. This happened to anyone else? And wtf?

Just remember the milage and reset the oil change light.

To reset turn on the key (dont start the car) and pump the gas pedall twice...I am pretty sure thats how you do it. I always have to try it a couple of times. Yeah our cars have a mind of their own sometimes.

You turn the key to on and hold the reset button in the fuse case in the left side of the dash (open the door first). I think it beeps or just goes away. Did mine a month or two ago.

Mine is an 04. I opened up the "Fuse Acess" thing and there's tons of shit going on in there and I don't want to eff anything up. Should I just go get an oil change? Lol.

Just do it like I stated above and everything will be okay. Turn on key and press gas pedal twice...hold it down on the second time...then just change your oil in 1000 to 3000 miles.

Well now you either change the oil in 1000 miles and then reset the light or run it till it tells you to change it again another 3000 miles if you are running synthetic.

the light does not keep track of how many miles your driving.

drive 3000 miles and see if it comes on im betting it wont.

the computer keeps track of the amount of "heat cycles" the engine goes threw. once it reaches a certain number is when the change oil light comes one.

To reset the light, you either use the button in the fuse panel (I don't think any Ecotec cars have this, but the others do). Or turn the key on, press the accelerator pedal fully 3 times within 5 seconds and a few seconds after that you should hear a confirmation chime indicating that the oil life monitor has successfully been reset.

Well, I know I don't have the button on mine... Maybe it's something to do with 03 and 04s... or just GXs... I don't think i have the low tire pressure monitor either.

the light is on a timer. to turn it off use the reset button in the fuse panel or turn the key to the "ON" postion (don't start it) and pump the brakes three times.

It's crazy I know,

If I don't reset mine I can go almost 2 full oil changes before it does.

I hate pulling off the fuse cover to reset it, but the gas pedal thingy worked once, but not again.

On a 2000, how many times do you pump the gas? 2 or 3?

on a 2000, it's 3 times.

And as brent said, it counts heat cycles. But you should change the oil every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. (which means, a minimum of 4 times a year)

hmm, well i have a 2000 and in the owners manual it says to pop open the fuse box panel and hold the restet button until it flashes (with the key on the 'on' position) i did this three times (the first time i got the tire pressure light to go off) but the change oil never flashes, should i do it the pumping the brakes 3 times way?

Thanks for searching and adding onto this thread insted of just starting a new thread but to answer your question after you hold the reset button it will flash then press it again to get it to switch to the oil light then hold it and it will go away
