2.4 Ignition misfire

The engine is misfiering but only at idle. I took the cover of and checked sparkplugs. They where OK. I did notice that the plastic where the sparkplus stubs come out is cracked. I mean a big crack.

Should I replace that ? Where could I buy one online if needed

I had a similar problem, after ripping the entire ignition system to fuel injectors out, it only ended up being one of the spark plugs.

If it's been awhile, you should get new spark plugs.

As to the plastic... no idea if it should be replaced.. I say probably!

na before you spend lots of money just replace the white plastic coil pack housing and you should be good to go. Just go to your local autozone. But replaced your spark plugs too

if you want the ultimate end to the misfire.

convert to MSD coils and plug wires. It'll cost you about $240 all together, but you'll never have a misfire from a coil related source for a long long long long long long time.

I'm having the same stubbling problem at idle too......it started doing it before we went to a car show so I changed the plugs (they were old) and it didnt go away. I only does it at idle, and it isn't constant either....its like: pop pop.............pop................pop pop pop...............pop..........................pop pop. Its not a constant misfire and it hasn't triped the SES light either.

Do u think its the ignition cover?

I don't think they have AutoZone in Belgium.

There are web sites but shop around and see which ones offer international shipping.

replace the coilpack ASAP. if the white casing is cracked, that is why you're getting a misfire. definitely replace it before you start getting fuel dumped directly into the exhaust....which will clog the cat.

if the spark plug boots are cracked couldn't that cause arcing which would in turn cause it to misfire as well....just throwing a thought out there?

lot cheaper to replace the boots then everything.

I've heard of this being done but have never seen it. Any insight, how to, etc. spy?

check your fuel pressure regulator, it missfires like that at idle when they go bad cause gas is going thru the vac line on top of it. Thats where you can start looking for your problem.
