ROFL

If I could use all the amps at work at once I could have about 600,000 rms.

amp on the back of the seat, with subs facing the back end of the car seems to be the most popular setup

The only reason why your subs should be facing forward is if you plan to seal you enclosure off from the trunk. If not, you are just going to get a lot of cancellation and not a whole lot of sound pressure. (It will not be very loud.) Face your subs to the rear so they can load off of your trunk lid, then your amplifier will be fine on the back of your seat.

Best place for amps is as close to a good ground point you can get it within reason. Not upside down/inverted unless your amp is specifically designed for it. Also you dont want it tight against something else front wise- best leave room for proper air flow/cooling.

besides tuning out in the dash setting. if its custom
you gotta make sure you running the right ohms nd the watts are correct
other wise the amp is gonna burn out, or cut off
its not rocket science. and its always good to go with a capaciter
and run a seperate battery depending how much shit you have tapped into
the power wires, other wise your gonna be drawing alot of power out of your battery thats running your car, thats where the diming of the lights come in
drawing that power

God i miss my system, it had gotten stolen a month after i got it
I had 2 12' AudioBahn AW1206T Flame Q series subs, with a 1500HCJ AudioBahn amp
ran em with 4ohms mono parallel setup, since its a duel voice coil, and that shit thumped
but that was the last one i will ever get, now in my alero i replaced stock speakers with polk audios

Take notes, you need them.

Actually you can take any speaker and put them on any amp- doesnt mean it will function the way you want it to.

Plenty of things to setup and things to do. There is proper amplifier tuning. There is adjusting filters. Its not all on the head unit... Dont forget aiming of subwoofers, polyfill in the box!!!

Whats custom? not opening up a box and pulling an amp, sub, sub box and wiring out? That makes it "custom" ROFL

Of course the basics of Car Audio apply when you pick out your own equipment. I dont understand how the correct watts can burn an amp out or make it cut off? Maybe you can elaborate on that topic some.

The basics of electricity will tell you that the battery is not powering the car, the alternator is. With that being said if the alternator is not supplying enough amperage to properly power the amp and the car, what makes you think that it has enough power to charge another battery or maintain a capacitor? It is this exact flawed thinking/myth which has plagued car audio for well over 12 years now.

You must love my avatar then. I piss Audiobahn and shit Pyramid.

That means you ran them at 1 Ohm. Come on smarty pants!

second why ? my knowledge, dude im 25 im sure I know the more than just the basic and know how things work, otherwise I wouldnt be posting up shit, cause I would just sound stupid, but theres nothing I put down that was wrong. and your making it sound like I dont know what im talking about.
whats a capacitor? it's basically power storages in the car, and accumulate power whenever it is not required. This power is released when the demand for power exceeds the supply in your car. and also necessary to supplement the regular power supply of the car in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the amplifier, my opinion use a seperate battery for the supplement. so like i said If you car lights dim when your system produces a deep bass note, then your amp will be greatly helped with a car audio capacitor.

Actually most of this is wrong also. Ya I know, go figure some random information copied and pasted around the interwebz could be wrong??? No its online it MUST be true!

It all starts with the alternator. If you dont have a proper charging system your shit is going to fail- its only a matter of time. Thats the bottom line.

Deeper you say? Fine.

Now once you are drawing over 125% of your rated alternator the brushes in the alternator start to burn. What this means is that if you voltage rail is sagging bellow battery voltage you will be burning up alternators. Adding more batteries only makes the demand on the alternator more. Adding more capacitors is almost worse...

More more more??? OK baby...

Capacitors... Well its short term storage. In what a capacitor can output in one second it takes 5 seconds to fully recharge. What does this mean you ask? Well it means if you have a demand that forces a draw from the capacitor then and the cap becomes depleted during this draw or one close by, the voltage will sag. It will make it worse because not only is the amplifier consuming power, the capacitor is recharging also. So its a double whammy.

Bottom line is alternator #1. Extra batteries help, but its a band aide. Capacitors- good when you have the proper charging system to back them. Ideally you would have all three. proper alternator, extra batteries and a nice cap bank for the transients.

Open the faucet all the way more water comes out slightly close the faucet and the water will flow slowly or trickle persay. So lets use the water as an example of the flow of electricity(voltage and/or amps). And the faucet's valve that controls the flow is the speakers ohms(resistance). A speaker at 1 ohm would represent the water faucet being opened or turn up at the maxium or high level which a large amount of water would be flowing. The large amount of water would also represent the amount of power/wattage.Now a speaker that is 8 ohms would represent the valve turned down to a minimum level creating a smaller flow of water or "power" flowing

anything else just ask

This again is false.

Resistance is a DC measurement weighted in Ohms. Resistance is a constant, just like DC power.

Impedance is an AC measurement weighted also in Ohms. What makes impedance different is that like AC current it is variable.

A speaker has an Ohm rated Impedance as the rating is variable.

What you call a 4 Ohm speaker is a speaker with an average Ohm of 4. DC resistance on a 4 Ohm speaker at rest is usually around 3.6 Ohm DC.

The water analogy only works in terms of amplifier output. A 16 Ohm speaker will sound the same as a 1 Ohm speaker providing they are powered the same at respective amp output.

Unless you're building your trunk as a 6th order enclosure it does NOT matter how you have your subs firing. Most people are going to push there enclosure up to the seats to have more room in the trunk, that alone brakes the deal. Never mind anytime you add anything inside of your trunk you will change its tuning.

What did I gain from sealing off my trunk, NOTHING!!!!, I only gain 3 db because of how I tuned the box that replaced the old non sealed boxes, I have the smaart metering to prove it.

Ryan, I love you.

I disagree Scott.

There is such a thing as aiming subs in trunks and I think it does make differences.

I have had subs in the trunk facing every which way. Ported, sealed and bandpass, including 6th order band passes. Moving them around can, will and does change things up. Hell I even sealed a trunk off before and noticed a loss.

I think the worse was when I put two 10's in the rear deck of a car, in a box per manufacturer specs. That was an epic failure and they were placed differently a day or so later... lol. That was my shortest lived setup.

Ryan, you are my hero. Recording Major here, and I fully understand everything you just said.

Could get technical about frequencies and acoustics and how it relates to speaker placement/direction and your vehicle.
