Sylvania Silverstar

I bought the Sylvania SilverStar low beam bulbs the other night, 9006. They work awesome. I love them. A lot whiter and brighter than the standard 9006 bulbs. I highly suggest getting them. Got mine for $30 at Advance Auto Parts.

Welcome to the world of better night vision. When I first got the lowbeams, they were almost as bright as the stock high beams.

I two have the highs and lows. I love them. To bad Silverstars don't make fogs for our rides. I had to go with a higher wattage Street Glows!

i had them and they both pass and driver went out on me, like wtf. i just have stock looking bulbs now, but silvers are really nothing compared to hid which would be my next lights

I have the highs and lows too, and I really like them. I wish I bought mine at Advance Auto Parts though (like SlickSketcher), because they cost me 37/pair at Wal-Mart.

I'm on my second set of Silverstars now. They provide so much more light than stocks do which is awesome. My only beef i they only last about a year (and that was confirmed a while back on their website).

i pulled my silverstars out and put in streetglows, much better and less cost.

its whitish but i went through 2 sets on the acura (9006) and i got tired of it so i went HID

nicest part is im swapping em over to the alero once i sell the car

yeah, the silverstars are a good step up from stock, but they only last a year or so and for the price it isnt really worth it. Ive had my High beams for two years, but ive replaced both my lows once in two years.....I highly reconmend getting hids instead.

Doesnt going HID require a whole lot of extra work and money? I didnt think there was any easy way to go HID on our cars.

I went with silverstars because i could just pop 'em in and be done. And i have been quite satisfied.. however i am interested in HIDs..

Funny to see this thread, cause I just replaced a low beam silverstar in my olds today. As far as lasting a year, I might argue with that, this is the second headlight bulb I've changed within a year, and the fog lights ive replaced about 4 of them.

Not a direct replacement, but you can use the silverstar #883 i think it is, (I should have it memorized by now). Its a straight socket instead of the 90 degree type that the stock foglight bulb has.

^well ill say this, they last at most a year then....

for a hid kit its not that difficult. the ones Ive seen around here call for very little work. you find a good place to mount the ballast, run the wires, its plug and play, and insert the bulb like you would any other.

The cost is the big factor, but the bulbs will last a good long while. I cant quote exact life of the bulbs but if you do some searching im sure you will find it quite easily.

I can get a kit locally for maybe 300-400 CAD.

all you need is hids for your lows and use silver stars for your highs. Unless your really picky.

it would be awesome to have HID, but i can't afford that, so i'll stick with silverstar for now.

just a quick question, would we use the 90 degree bulbs or the straight bulds for our cars or does it even matter?

So Alero's have both a high beem bulb AND a low beem bulb? I own a GA and we use 9007's and they are both high and low in one bulb.
Im waiting for my clear chrome head lights to come in and im gonna use silverstars. They are heavily recomended on GA's also.

Yeah, Aleros have both high beam and low beam bulbs.

I've had my silverstars for about 18 months, both high and low beams. I think they are very nice bulbs.

I've had the run of bulbs too... from eurolite, to street glow, to some funky japanese bulbs, to HID's and finally to Silverstars.

I think I was the first one on this site to do an HID conversion on an Alero. It looked nice, but HID's don't give the full effect unless you retrofit projectors into the headlight housing. HIDs in themselves are already an expensive project, but add in retrofitting projectors, and you have an $700-$1000 project on your hands. Even if you do it yourself, it is going to cost over $500.

All the other brands bulbs I've used have burned out the wiring harnesses inside the headlights within a couple of months. Silverstars don't do that. I've heard that the Phillips bulbs don't burn out the harnesses either.

But I dig the silverstars. I think they're a nice compramise between good looks, functionality, and price.
