OK, so i was driving home start up the car running and idleing perfect. i get on 475 and i notice the temp gauge slowly rising. by the time i hit 475 i have to turn the car off to stop it from over heating. i did this a couple more times to get to a mcdonalds where i can leave the car sit.

Now, i noticed a loud clunk coming from the fan(i know it is the fan cause it will do it for a few seconds after i shut off the car), the engine doesnt FEEL hot at all but the gauge says it is running hot(hot to the point the light will come on). I ALSO have no heat coming out when i turn my heater on inside. it blows the air but it is all cold air. WTF. any ideas? issed: issed: issed:

Perhaps a clogged heater core? It's not very common on the Alero, but it's possible.

Sounds like thermostat. With engine warm feel the upper radiator hose to see if it is hot & the coolant is circulating.

my first guess would be t-stat too. sounds like its stuck closed. Air in the heater lines is possible, or a clogged hose/core. but thats not common at all. Try t-stat first.

I agree, if nothing else, this is a perfect time to go to a good aftermarket low-temp T-stat

changed the stat and drive belt. nothin. still no heat and runs hot. only thing i can think of now is heater core or water pump....i dont see any major leaks(if it were the heater core) so i dont know. i coulda scraped something on a speed bump the other day.

i think i got it figured out.....think there was some air in the coolant lines. let it run with out the pressure cap on....put it on and ran fine. stat was bad tho. i tested it and it dint open.
