Question Rear defroster module on drivers side of car

I have search and read all rear defroster threads. i did nt see anything on the little black box on the drivers side. I checked for voltage on the drivers side got voltage there but nothing on the drivers side i removed little black box with one wire and took unit apart. It has a coil inside this unit that is wraped around something. Is there any specs as far a restiance or anything of that nature

thanks chris

i know that the drivers side goes right to ground but my question is about the coil that it goes thru first before the ground

Dunno... I took mine apart after I replaced it and it was fried. If you get voltage to that point but not after, chances are it's toast. Try wiggling the connections - that worked for me a few times.

Well I guess my question is what is the normal resistance on the box and did you test the voltage out of it? Reading ohms isn't an indication of a problem unless you know what the spec is if you get what I'm saying, same goes for voltage unless you know how much voltage should be there then you are taking a shot in the dark, now if there is no voltage coming out of it then of course you may have a problem with that unit.

Thank you very much for the pics CBL! I was wondering where that box is and what it looks like. Mine didn't work in like two years and the coil looks burnt up, now if I can figure out a way to replace it I'd really hate to bypass its purpose. Hey, I'm not jacking your thread man but I think you're thinking what I'm thinking... you want someone that has a similar one that actually works, to run an ohm-meter across it and tell you the value of that coil. That's about all the parameters that you need to build up a replacement.

We are going to need a haynes manual for this one, and I thought it would be cool to put this site down to see what others have complained about.

weird mine looked nothing like that haha. I looked it up online a few months ago and found the same problem, only my "converter" box was fried, the wires were cooked, there was burnt plastic around it and corrosion all over. I resoldered thicker gauge wire to the contacts and I was back in business!

I thought the Defrost was on the Pass Side and the Antenna was on the Driver?

Yes, the defroster module is located on the passenger side, and I have one available if you need one.

Ya that is only the connector if I'm correct. The module is wayy bigger than this, and it is located behind the plastic cover piece between the rear window and the rear passenger side window. On the left side, theres 2 wires that connect to the rear window defroster, those two wires go directly to the module.
