A little question about the 3400 engine

I would just like to know how many valves exist in the 3400 engine?

Thanx.

Yep. Intake valves are 1.76" in diameter and exhaust valves are 1.42".
Why does it suck?

I have a feeling most on here don't realize the Viper is an OHV engine (or it used to be).

virtually every engine designed since 1949 is over head valve...

Ever hear of the Rocket V-8 ???

the first overhead valve engine released in 1949

The dodge V10 is still an OHV engine, but who'd want one of those anyways...

The Z06 and ALL corvettes except for the ZR-1 for that matter are all OHV engines.

Here is an example of an OHV engine:

Note the valve are OVER the piston.

Here is an example of a NON-OHV engine:

Note the valves are NOT over the piston.

Cleared things up??

Sort of but not really. Not all OHV engines are DOHC. OHV engines have 1 cam in the engine block that pushes open the valves via pushrods. OHC (over head cam) engines have the cam(s) in the head pushing down on the valves directly, without pushrods.

Overhead cams, and overhead valves are two different things. With overhead valves, the camshaft is lower in the engine and uses pushrods and rocker arms to activate the valves. With overhead cams, the camshat is above the valves, and activates teh valves directly.

MFuller thanks for that info. I never knew the valve size, or thought to ask

I don't understand why 2 valves per cyl sucks. Mine does just fine with 2

Because the 4 bangers got 4 valves per cyl, doesn't mean it sucks though, just means we got 2 big valves and they got 4 small ones.
