Take the time and make a coverplate to fill the space of the 6X9 and put in 6.5 infinity component. I with that I had done this and if the speakers blow again that is what will happen. just my .02

I had a car with rear 5x7 components, infinity kappas. included a crossover.

I'm sure they come in a 6x9 size. They sounded great. I got mine for 100 bucks on sale, retail was about 120

Ive been running Hertz Audio Componrnts up front, they are awsome. THey have crisp highs, and produce some great mids and amazing lows for such a small speaker. Check out their website. hertzaudio.com

Infinity's are also great. I also suggest checking out PG.

Why not just upgrade to the kappas like someone else mentioned earlier. The kappas can handle a lot more power so just upgrade them and get a larger amp and your good to go. Im running the 6.5 infinity kappa components up front with 6x9 infinity kappa rears and pushing it all with a 4x500 rockford fosgate amp. I dont hear many cars that can go louder than mine unless I let them.
