Engine Surge????

Guys, I was wondering if anybody has experienced their car having a slight surge when like climbing an incline and just holding the speed? When I'm on the freeway going like 60mph and then start up an incline, it starts to slightly surge while trying to maintain the speed I was going while on flat ground. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Maybe a slight misfire. Could be fuel pump too.

Well I had a misfire but it wasn't really bad. But if I got on it to get on the freeway it would surge. Plugs and wires wouldn't be a bad idea.
The misfire I had was so little that at idle you wouldn't know it was there. It wouldn't set a check engine light either so a regular scan tool wouldn't pick it up.

Hmmm....I guess I'll try the plugs first. Cheaper. It has no problem getting on the freeway with plenty of power. Just under a slight load does is surge a bit. Also when I like leave first thing in the morning and take off real slowly, it also kinds surges a tiny bit. I was thinking it could be the tranny like it was slipping or something. I REALLY hope that's not the case. Thanks for the ideas.

LOL you noobs!

The transmission tends to kick down into a lower gear if you give it some load, thus higher RPM.

I knew that part about the tranny kicking down. My comment about the tranny maybe slipping is when taking off from a dead stop.

I wouldn't call the tranny kicking down a surge.

The RPMs "surge" when it downshifts. But I didn't read dbailey's comment above mine, which calls for a different explanation.

Ignore me, lol.
