LED Headlights

Not led's in the headlights, but actual LED headlights. As in replacing the bulbs with LED's. Is this possible? I think it would almost look kind of like projection, only with more than one lens.

www.superbrightleds.com has them.

look at the lumens. It is definitely possible, but you won't get any kind of brightness out of them. it will be for asthetics, not functionality. Leds don't work good distance wise.

Hence why HIDs are so prevalent. Use certain tech for what its good for.

There was a concept subaru legacy w/ LED headlights, but like cherry said, I'm not so sure you'd be able to see real well with them.

They look pretty slick, but I can see why they are mainly used for DRL's. Still, I think it would look pretty cool, and maybe with some HID highbeams.

Actually....

http://www.ledheadlamps.com/

I know they don't fit the Alero, but it's still an advancement in the technology.

yeah.. those 7" seem to be a step forward... but i wonder what the lumen output is. comparatively they can't possibly encroach on HID tech, for power used/lumen output over a distance...

hence why they are used for drl.

hhmmm

I'm sure it wouldn't be to horrible hard to reverse engineer some of those into our headlight assemblies. I'll have to see how much they cost and at least try it out.

Well, they do draw 2.5A (30W!) a piece for the low beams..

yes... but that doesn't mean much, for lumen output.

I know... Just saying they draw a lot of current for just LED.

They must not be that bad, they ARE DOT certified after all.
