something tells me you are looking to get rid of the plastic housing before the air filter, There's a couple of bolts, you'd do well to remove the front left headlight while you are working, just unbolt and go!

also search the site, most questions have already been answered.

doesn't it direct (colder) air to your airbox?

Well.

The opening on this thing is like a straw.

If you want to, try snorkeling with a straw, you'll see what I mean.

Your engine gots to breathe!

If you have a CAI you have to remove this... I did this before I got my old CAI... simply because my front end was tore up from an accident and it was easy to get to... The only noticeable differance is that it makes a little louder if you are standing outside the car... now I have a WAI and I really can't tell any other differance!!!

If you are looking at your air box where the stock air filter is... look at the plastic tube running out of it towards the front of the car and then down into the wheel well right next to the battery... you can only see the upper corner of it from inside the hood....

Once you get it out from inside the wheel well it kind of looks like this big snorkel...

Try Clicking here.... it's from N-Body has some pics on the right hand side of the screen

It's just a little box attached to the intake tube that muffles the 'Wahh' sound like that of a cai. Basically you remove this to make it sound like you have a cai, depending on the size of the hole in the tubing. if it's straw sized like said before(i've never looked at it) you probly wont notice a diff. I've done this to my civic in okinawa and the sound at 4500 rpms is deafening

The resonator or "tuner tube" as i call it makes the noise of the intake system quiter...
I noticed a BIG differance in sound on my alero... but mine has the 2.2ecotec...
my tuner tube is bigger than the pics posted here b4, and on the n-body site...
By bigger i mean it has more compartments.. including one that go's above the wheel, and 2 other ones.... and then had a tiny opening by the headlight.

To take mine out i removed left front wheel... and inner fender.. that gave me access to the Tuner tube, coupple bolts and it was out, and accross the room :P

i believe the real need for that is to take cold air and warm it up
i also believe our cars use a dry throttle body meaning the air fron the air box is warmed up sent to the tb
mechanics say you need it but i disagree
i also belive that when you have a cai your pushing cold air into a cold tb and cold block causing it to run real rich
i don`t really remember that much but hope that helps

well, tuner tube, resonator, is different on each motor. so when you talk about this you should state what motor you have. it will help everyone to give ya the correct info for you.

on the 2.4, all it does is really make the intake louder. but i had a WAI when i removed mine. Forgot to tell you that charles.

if you remve it on the 2.4 you will see what it does is directs the air straight back against a wall and then the air bounces around and over to the TB. with it out there is less boucing around so it will low a little better but still it is non effiecent system.

I have the 3.4 Thanks for everything...but could one person just post step by step instructions for me, and anyone else who wants them. Numbers and descriptions are good. Also, how long has this taken anyone who has done it?

i did this a while back... cut the "resonator box" off of the intake tubing, sealed the hole up, and i also cut the plastic tube that runs up behind the headlights so now it's down in the fender behind the fog light... basically where the intake would be for CAI, but since i'm still using the air box, i'm obviously not gonna see the gains i'd see from CAI, but you get the point.
