well, here's a list of problems with the 'hoe:

1. grinding noise whenever i drive, kind of similar to when your brakes are completely shot, only it's constant, and really frikkin loud

2. occasionally it'll sound like i ran over a coffee can, making a clanking noise

3. grinding/growling noise whenever i turn, especially to the right (tires do rub a lil)

4. my nighttime interior lights won't come on. the gauge cluster functions
normally, but none of the nighttime lights come on

5. occasionally when i go around turns it feels like my front wheels are going to fall off (this happened before, i definitely know the feeling)

well, open game fellas. i think the grinding is the wheel bearing, the grinding/growling is the power steering, and the clanking is the cvjoint boot or whatever the hell it's called. the nighttime lights thing i'm still scratching my head over. any help is appreciated

jack it up...pull the front wheels off and you might be able to see what the problem is with all the front end poop that is happening. grab your brake disk and see if it wiggles.if it does.....then there is one problem.also check your brake pads. mine make a loud anoying noise all the time when the brake pad got low enough that the "tadle tail" rubbed on it all the time . both my front calipers were sticking so it wore out the one side of my brake pads instead of wearing evenly on both sides.

oh and if your car grinds or make anykind of noise like that when you turn your wheels all the way to either side than your cv joints are probably hooped.

i've yanked every fuse; driver's side, passenger's side, and under the hood. all of em are fine. could it be that the part that "senses" light and dark is shot?

/\ /\ Have you tried actually switching on your headlights? Instead of relying on the sensor. It may sound dumb, but you DID check your dimmer didn't you? Make sure it's not turned down all the way.

For the ABS and trac off, that confirms you have at least one bad hub.

yeah, i checked the dimmer and tried manually switching the lights on and off. didn't work. anyway, how hard is the hub to replace? i haven't really messed with much in that region. idea of cost? oh yeah, it's progressed to a consistant clanking, which gets louder when i turn right. does that shed any light?

It seems I have some of the same problems

Quote:

2. occasionally it'll sound like I ran over a coffee can, making a clanking noise

5. occasionally when i go around turns it feels like my front wheels are going to fall off (this happened before, i definitely know the feeling)

Problem 1 may be the bearing. Problem 2 and 5 happen to me too but I can't figure out why. Problem 3... I have no clue. Problem 4 may be that your dimmer switch is bad. I would try replacing the switch.

As for the anti-lock brake and trac off light being on, I had that problem and it was the ABS sensor in the front right. To replace the sensor you have the replace the entire hub assembly (also includes the bearing). That part, if I remember right, is about $170, $250 installed. You may be able to find it cheaper and install it yourself if you can. In any case, have your ABS system scanned for codes and that will tell you if and what sensor is bad.

got it all fixed today. i didn't really have much of a bearing to speak of... it was ground to poop. replaced brakes. the abs and trac off light are gone, and i've bought three dimmer switches, none work. who knows what the hell it is
