I have decided to not get a cat back and instead just change the muffler. I have been quoted $140 for some store brand )starts with an I), $150 for flowmaster, $50 for strait pipe with no muffler. Is there anybody that has any of these setups on their Alero ? If so can someone post sound clips?

I don't have a sound clip, but Flowmaster is your best bet

y? biggest difference in mufflers is sound. all aftermarket mufflers are gonna flow better than stock and our cars dont have enuff HP or flow enuff air to really see a difference in gains between the different mufflers out there.

yeah my 80 at idle sounds excellent, at highway speed just cruizen, yeah it can become annoying, under hard throttle at high rpm it will begin to rasp, but i have headers, highflow cat and 2.5 piping.
are you running headers and a highflow on straight pipes?

well it depends on the setup you have, i had an original 40 at first, sounded great until i put on my headers and highflow cat, after that it sounded like ass.
my personal opinion, the 80 series is louder.

So if I only get rid of my resonator, re-do the exhaust with 2.5 diameter, my best muffler for a mean muscle sound is a standard flow 40? cuz I want my muffler to be bawls loud outside but not as loud inside... I still want to hear my car roar ....

if its loud outside it will be loud inside, yes a regular 40 sounds nice, 2.5 from the cat back.
