My Alero is a 2001 with the upgraded CD w/RDS Stereo with a "AM FM" "CD" button. Has anyone tried using the adapter found here or any other adapter to allow a pionner IP-BUS xm radio to work on a factory radio with Class-2 connector on the back? I'm a little confused because the description says 2001-2005 interface, but you have to have a XM capable deck with a "BAND" button An XM factory deck will only work in a 2003 or 2004 Alero, so does this device do all the converting and use the serial data for track and channel info? Are all the newer decks pre-programmed with XM radio?

After doing some more research I did find also that unit is bad for tuning since the pioneer recievers can only display 8 char. Found out that XM Direct is the way to go($300) if you have a 2003 or newer. Being that my car is an 01, it is only programmed for remote cassette, changer, or headphones. I also looked on GM Techline and the harness connnectors and technology are the same from one radio to the other, but the pinouts are differnet. So one would have to make a new harness for a 2002 or older Alero to get a 2003-04 stock player to work. I'll probably upgrade to a newer system instead of all that $ and trouble. Any suggestions on what deck is the best for XM radio? I also know I need a reciever, but what headunit will fit nicely in the factory openeing(1.5 size)
