Exhaust time.
My muffler has been sounding terrible at certain RPM/load. Like at 1.8-2k RPM it rattles like crazy for a quick sec when I take off, super gay, super ricey. It's even worse today right after I did a short WOT pull. Gah. I don't know if it's a piece of the old catalytic converter or that the muffler's broken internally (it's only got 188,000 miles on it!) but it sounds really gay as I take off lol. Fine otherwise.
[Edited to reflect updated info] So I've got a JET-HOT coated Pacesetter header on its way here, and I'm looking to replace the crap behind the 2.5" in/out cat that I have with a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler 2.5" in/outs Camaro style and dual chrome tips on each side.
Called up Auto Addictions (good anything automotive shop) and one of the main exhaust fabbers said glasspacks and especially Cherry Bombs don't do shit to quiet things down at all (using them as a resonator). Said they don't even remove the rasp on every single one he's put on for a customer. He says he even put two long ones back to back and with a cat and no difference to sound output. Said only way I could quiet things down is by using a muffler as a resonator, like the straight through Bullet style Dynomax muffler as a resonator or the like.
I always thought glasspacks as a resonator silence things down.. hm.

ummmm.....a few of my buddies put cherry bombs on their car just for the hell of it....... it made their cars sound like ass AND it made them louder. Im surprised you didnt know cherry bombs arent meant for quieting things down, they only make the car sound worse. lol

Yes I know as a muffler they are super loud, but using a super long cherry bomb as a RESONATOR just after the cat PLUS a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler is supposed to make it super quiet...
I ordered the Dynomax Super Turbo, I'm going to have them install that only (2.5" cat --> 2.5" pipe --> dynomax) and if it's too loud I'll figure out what resonator or muffler to put in between the cat and Super Turbo.

My bad, for some reason i forgot you said your going to use it as a resonator. BUT, if its still part of the exhaust i would think it would still make it sound bad...... lol, idk.

Grand total of what? The exhaust setup? I paid $175 for the header which has to be installed when it gets here, and $74 for the muffler. I don't know how much it'll be for them to weld some 2.5" piping from the cat to the muffler, then the short bends from the outlets of the mufflers to dual tips until I bring the muffler to them and let them take a look at how my exhaust is routed (Aleros are pretty simple)

IDK I guess using a glass pak type muffler as a res would be cool, it won't restrict flow at all. All they are is a tube with ridges to make the sound.
The turbo muffler you are talking about, that would be a muffler body with a straight thur pipe with fiberglass insutaltion inside, is that correct?
Should be too ricy sounding. Do it and post sound clips. If the wife's Altima needs an exhaust anytime soon, I'm going aftermarket, but with the 2.5, will probably sound ricy

Andy at Auto Addictions said that didn't do shit for sound either... I don't believe that but I'll have no resonator and Dynomax at first and see how that is. If it's too loud or raspy I'll have a Magnaflow muffler 18" long 2.5" in/out welded after the cat.
@Redog: No, the Dynomax Super Turbo is the quietest yet high flowing muffler, not straight through rice can garbage. It's low, quiet, and not raspy.
Mine's dual outlet though, it'll be crossflow.

the ultra quiet vibrant to the rasp out of my exhaust...it looks just like a muffler too but after driving around the tone changed and my car sounds somewhat different than what it had sound like the first day the exhaust was installed
@ion when you put that dynomax on there put up a sound clips...cause i still would like a quieter muffler...my rasp is gone but its still loud

yeah they shipped it out already and promise 1-2 day delivery, could be able to get it Fri and get it done Fri but unlikely lol. wish it was like when i ordered the supercharger. $20 shipping, ordered it one evening, got it the next morning.. nuts
Also the guy at the auto place assured me, the only way to make the exhaust quieter is to use 2 mufflers (such as using a straight through magnaflow first and then the Dynomax) and he's done hundreds of exhaust systems
