Won't hold charge or something...

My partner has the 2.2 and it will not start unless I jump it. The battery is only a year old and has had this problem with the old and new battery.
Example: Went out to start the car and turn the key to on position and all lights came on but it would just sputter and not turn over. Charged for a bit and then went to start it and it took a bit to finally get it to turn over. Went to take it for a drive and came back. Turned it off until the lights went off then tried to start it again and it started up, with just a little bit of effort. Turned it off and let it sit for about 5mins and it would not turn over.
It is all stock except it has an aftermarket alarm with starter. We went and had the alarm changed out to see if that was the problem, but it is still doing the same thing. Any thoughts?!

alternator. easy way to check it get the car running and disconnect the battery it should stay running. if it doesn't it is definitely the alternator.

oh does the red battery light come on.

No the red battery light does not come on, no warning lights at all come on.
