Power Steering Pump Failure

So I think my power steering pump is going. Nasty sounds when turning. Tried to do a 40 degree turn at about 55 and almost hit a guard rail this afternoon. Steering literally didn't respond.

Sound like the power steering pump? Anything else that these symptoms could be caused by?

Check the fluid. Mine was moaning quite a bit as well. topped it up, and it has been fine!

Sounds like your case is a little more severe. Check for leaks. If your fluid is topped up, it is most likely the pump.

yeah I had the problem in late January, early February. I got a very small leak on the power steering hose personally I'm going to try a new hose clamp before I replace the hose.

Where is the power steering pump? As dumb as that sounds...I've never had to look for it.

darn its been so long.. but on my 2.4 it was BAM right on top, practically, no fishing around.

And if you have fluid gone that means its going somewheres.. (captain obvious today, lol) hopefully its only a pump and not a rack you need! When my pump went (3 times.. lmfao) all it did was make noise on sharp turns, did not affect steering ability. My dad finally boned up and put in a NEW.. non remanned delco pump and no problems.

A new pump won't do you any good if the problem is that you are leaking fluid.

I still gotta take a look at this...I'll see whats up this afternoon and get back to everyone about it. Hopefully it won't be too bad, maybe just the hoses, I just don't want it to be the pump/rack.

Ive got the same problem in my 3.4 except my power steering fluid is topped and it still doesn't work (doesn't make any sounds either). So I take it its the pump not a hose.

this power steering pump runs on the intake cam at the right of the engine and theres only two bolts to remove if you wanna swap it i have one like that in perfect condition for sale if you need one,if you do not see any leak and theres fluid in the reservoir,so your pump is leaving, but to be sure, look at the hoses(especialy the pressure one) till under the car to check if theres no leak there too!
