It may spool a little slower due to it being further away from the direct exhaust pulses, plus the distance will dissipate the heat, so the turbo wouldn't be using the heat energy as well. It can be done though, just a pain to run all that charge piping I would think. It's been done on a 4 cylinder Cavalier, so the 3400 is more than capable of using this system, it's just all about turbo size.

You mention not using an intercooler....you'd actually still need one. The turbo may be taking in fresh air outside the engine bay, but it still heats up when it gets compressed. In that respect, it's no different than having a turbo in the engine bay with the intake in the fender or through a hood scoop.

Spilner, how much work and modification was required to mount that CAC? it looks like you had to trim the backside of the bumper cover?

last i saw with an sts tt on a vette they said w/o an intercooler it ran like 10* hotter than an underhood intercooled setup. I dont know if that is the promotional bs or if its true but their marketing scheme was that the length of the charge pipe acts as an intercooler supposedly. I dont think i believe it though.

i was debating that setup on something else. ive seen alot of talk about it and it all sounds good to me. i would believe what they say. never heard anything bad about the setup and it makes damn good power.

i would fin the charge pipe for heat disipation, if you really wanna go all out do that and slip another pipe over and then make a scoop to direct air into the outer pipe so it forces air past the fins basically making it a tubular intercooler

or just use a water setup

I had to trim the back side of the bumper cover and just a very little bit off the bumper support to fit the intercooler. With those trimmings it actually fits perfectly.
