Look right under the power steering fluid.. you gonna see a red cap in your transmission thats where you fill it. And to drain, right next to the frame on the lower driver side theres a bolt(is facing towards the wheel not down..), you need an allen key. Easy to change, remember our manual transmission uses ATF fluid, you need two qtz.

I second that too. The tranny is also known for making a growling noise, which is why ppl say change fluid and what not..after all nothing to worry about. I beat the shit out of mine.

my transmission was also making growling and howling noises. it wasn't normal, and it wasn't good. throw out bearing was fine. my differential was shot, and it literally blew apart

^PUT THE LUCAS OIL TRANNY FLUID ADITIVE IN THERE! it works wonders... But now that I think about it I'm sure if it's only for auto trannys or both... If it is, I very highly recamend it. And I think it was reddog that had a problem with his and it fixed it..
On a side note, I want he manual trans for mine ectotec for the win!

ya, when it's that far gone, you could run pure lucas oil additive, and it wouldn't of helped. i was blowing axle seals ever 2 weeks, it was howling and grinding and locking up.

it is mostly for autos, but i still run 1 bottle in my standard. been running it in there for 2 years

I need to do my fluid. 01 at 120k. It has trouble going into 1st at times. I saw on Saturn Ion that you need to overfill the f23 also to get rid of the noise. Their is also a TSB about it.

the engine in my alero has about 100 k on it, the tranny has 125K so i am probably in the same boat as you then. its also a 03 transmission. So i will check my fluids and hopefully i will be able to fix the noise. i dont like when the car is sad/angry. (any car)
