how much and where to have timing changed?

I'm at 110k now. I baby my car Penz plat then ultra when it was introduced every3k. My questions is, I've seen so many threads say replace timing at 100k and my brother lost a car from not replacing timing. I dont really trust anyone but dealer for that im assuming ill get raped on price. whats a rough ballpark estimate for that job/ Does it matter what part I get or is it oem only? are there signs of timing going bad and will it drive different with a new one? thanks for advice.

3400's have timing chains not belts so you shouldn't notice a difference at all since metal has less of an incline to stretch.. however the price significantly higher than replacing a timing belt on an OHC engine.. If your car is not rattling from that area you should be ok... but don't put it off too long.

Will it break your bank.. probably not.. however it is going to cost you.

If it was a belt, then 70K is a good number. but chains are usually good for a lot longer.

The timing sets are pretty good, should go past 150K with no problems

alerored04 is an unknown quantity at this point
/\ Ditto. At 110k on a chain I would not be concerned at all. When my motor blew at 155k my chain was still fairly taut and had very little stretch or slop. I almost reused it but I didn't just cause I didn't want to worry about it on a fresh rebuild.

Worked on a 4.6 Mercury v8 last year, and it had around 300k with the original timing chains. We replaced them while we had the front end torn apart, but they weren't actually bad.

who to believe? Everyone on here is saying don't worry about it, even the dealer said don't worry about it, so its either go with your gut, or trust everyone else haha

don't do it.. really it is overkill... unless there is stretch on it that makes it tough to start and rough idle and some random misfire codes... which I highly doubt about it......
