Well, if you are talking 300 whp, you better have a manual transmission for this attempt. Superdave is over 270 whp but with a 3500. Colin Wahl is at 222 whp and his setup is posted here. I ported the heads and he is running a 1280 cam, which isn't extreme but he is on the stock pistons.

http://www.60degreev6.com/forum/show...197#post350197

I built a motor with 12.4:1 compression and my 1331 grind, ported 3500 top end, crank scraper, knifeedged crank, polished rods/shotpeened, balanced rotating assembly, 65mm TB, etc. He hasn't dynoed it yet or run it at the track but from his stories, its crazy I don't think its 300whp but with the grand am SE trans and torque converter, the full potential isn't going to be realized either.

Milzy or someone else please correct me if i am wrong this is mostly speculation on my part.

With the right cam and heads combo and some high compression, I think 300 crank hp is very possible. The 227 we mentioned before is around 284crank hp, so when I mentioned 240whp, that was 300. Now if you're talking 300whp, i think it would take a lot more. 375 crank hp would be a gain of 200 over stock. I think a highly modified 3900 could do it, but not sure on a 3400.

Milzy, I like your site.

Probably in a few years or so I would like to do an entire stage 2 upgrade. The main question with that is the heads.

I bought a set of heads a while back from RSM racing and I had to send them back because of the extra air pump I have and the heads have a port on them for this. It's something extra for emissions and I never figured a way around it.

I would like the car to run in the high 13's. My best right now is mid 14's

I think I have a set of cores, maybe two sets that have the AIR ports in them. We could just port those for you if you'd like, or you could delete the AIR system.

Same, but I hope for the stage 3 prototypes to become a reality by then so I'd get the stage 3'er.

We'll be adding the Stage 3 heads to the store very soon. the Stage 3 cam is a little aggressive, so we may end up renaming it a Stage 4, we'll have to see on that, but if you wanted to purchase a Stage 3 kit, let me know, and i could get one put together for you.

Two ways to make big power naturally aspirated - revs and displacement.
Sure you can throw a larger cam in the motor and increase efficiency between porting and polishing......you can lighten and balance the reciprocatng assembly to free up some power (although generally, light ened parts give up some strength....nature of the beast), but eventually there's only so far you can go.
Where's the maximum? I don't know....but I bet you can get 300whp out of a 3400 if you really try.....all bets are off on how long it will survive though.

Finding a transmission to hold up to it in an N body will be interesting as well. I would add solid lifters to the list, and stiffer springs than hydraulic lifters could take.

tcemotorsports.com has the intake setup needed on their minus 1. 2nd to last pic is a good one

I would think the largest deterrents to 300+hp would be cost followed by a transaxle that won't fly apart.

wouldnt ITB's require MFI and not SFI? sounds like a PITA.

The heads are the expensive part. We'll be releasing these soon, but I anticipate pricing to be around $1999.99 The price of the cam is the same, so it would basically be a Stage 2 kit plus the $800 difference of the heads, so it would cost $800 more than a Stage 2 kit.
