I tried searching for this but the forum won't let you search for 3 letter words such as "din" - and I tried "stereo size" and a few other terms with no luck...

I saw a reference in one thread to 1.5 din, but I just wanted to make sure... this could possibly be in the manual, but I'm too lazy to go out to the car right now. <_<

ANYWAY my second question is more of a request.

If anyone knows of a good stereo that has an auxillary input, either back or front, I'd appreciate any suggestions. A remote control would be nice also.

I know I can get an adapter to put a smaller stereo in the large din size, but I would prefer one that fits, plus I like the idea of having a large display.. not necessarily a fancy lcd or anything, just a large mono display.

I need the line in to connect my mp3 player (it's a 20Gb hdd player, so please don't suggest CD mp3 players.)

Thanks for any help.

While I'm at it, if anyone could explain how to put the stock stereo in the trunk and have wires not be strewn all around the car, I'd appreciate it.

I'm totally new to all of this, so I apologize.

Our cars have a DOUBLE DIN radio in them....they make double din aftermarket radios, but they're mostly made for Japanese cars that re-use the stock mounting brackets (cant do that w/ GM cars) The dash kit for our cars looks fine..it looks completely OEM (not gawdy like other cars' kits out there). As for a radio w/ an AUX input I'd say go w/ a Pioneer and buy the databus input adapter (about $30) so you can plug in ur IPOD (or whatever) and still have a kickass radio. If you don't wanna do that, Sony and Aiwa have some w/ the aux. inputs built in.

You can get a bracket that allows for the smaller any aftermarket radio to be installed+++an EQ directly underneath it, looks really cool. Also, the EQ i bought has 2 auxillary inputs on the back, and one headphone jack input on the front. Can't wait to put it in this spring for the same reason as you, and the other aux inputs will be used for other media. Like my PS2 video goes directly to the LCD, but the sound has to go thru an FM transmittor, not come spring!! the sound won't even go to the radio at all, directly to the amps by the EQ at the push of a button.

No need to apologise TB, you tried the search function, and it didn't work out. No biggie, you've already done what most newbs can't be bothered to do.

There's info regarding the aftermarket radio installation into 2001-2004's here.

That should take care of your wiring harness routing question.

In terms of a dash kit, that info is abundant in this thread.

For aftermarket headunit information, there are alot of resources out there, Crutchfield being one of the best.

Crutchfield.com

Hope this helps man.

personally, i use www.sounddomain.com and crutchfield for info and specs. then use etronics or sounddomain for the purchase. (sound domain gives you more free starter stuff and etronics has low prices.)

plus you can use etronics as a price match for sounddomains 105% low price guarentee (sp?)

works great for me. and of course post comments on here for unique ideas, pics, tech support, and installation questions.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

1WhiteOSV: So it's double din, thanks for clearing that up. I'll look around and see what I can do.. I'll probably be having a professional install it. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for the aux input.

Can you tell me what model this is? I like this idea a lot... but I assume you need an amp for the EQ? Also, out of curiosity, what mp3 player do you have? I have an iRiver H120, but have been tossing the idea around of upgrading, though I haven't found anything I like better.

Youngblood 77, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll take a look at the links. I went to crutchfield. Too bad I don't have $1500, cuz i'd really like to get this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JAtDodj0fnc/c...50&search=input

And thanks to cherrington for helping me save my precious $$$!

I personally wouldn't buy from Crutchfield, they're a tad high in price. Even though they give you installation instructions and dash kits, wiring stuff etc., I still think they're expensive. But, they're a great resource for deck features and other info. Once you get an idea which deck you want, you've got the hardest part done and over with. From there, I'd suggest using multiple online comparisons like Cherrington suggested. ( Pricegrabber for example )

In my own personal experience, I did that same thing and as it turned out, I got my deck from some small shop near NYC for roughly $60.00 LESS than if I just purchased it @ a local chain store, and that even includes the shipping charges! You can save alotta scratch just by being patient, and looking around the net.
