if you have an ecotec, probably just colder plugs and maybe slight fuel mods, Plus a PCM flash.

i would say to make this effective, like fast eddie said, colder plugs and a PCM reflash is a must, if you wanna get really ambitious and let this truely release its power, then go ahead and take the engine apart and have the headers ported and polished, and even possibly look into cam shafts, as well as upgrade the pulleys....i bet this all could be done for under $2500 if you do it yourself (except the port and polish)

Only problem I would foresee is that the S/c is probably pretty close to its maximum efficentcy so you can turn up the boost.

also for your perusal is the GM official build book for their race parts for ecotec.

Build Book

This has most stages of build by HP range, plus the transmission specs.

Im a little lacking when it comes to knowladge of superchargers, but Ive been told that they run off a belt...or something. I was looking at my car the other day and noticed....theres not that much room...is there any need for maybe adjustment of the hoses or anything like that?

the supercharger kit from GM comes with everything needed to install the supercharger, including attaching the drive belt and relocating or moving any hoses that are in the way. everything is all taken care of and will fit.

I would love to pick up this kit. I am just concerned the reflash would not work for our cars since the engine is slightly different. All it says is we need the Ac Delco injectors so who knows.

Go for it. It should come w/ an instulation manual and it is a job that you can do your self by following it. The only thing is you need to have it reflashed before you start it up again. So do the install and tow it to the nearest GM performance dealer for the reflash. To find that just get a hold of GM Parts Direct to get the Location.

Well, this is something that i considered as well. The supercharger is really designed to go in the J-Body. However it's possible that the program can be written to the N-Body computer, then again there's always that chance that it can't and you'll be out of luck without a DHP or HPTuner programmer.. Or it could be possible to swap in the J-Body computer, but I haven't looked up the wiring on how hard (or easy?) that one would be if it's different. (mind you, if you actually swapped in the PCM, you'd have to re-flash the BCM, Radio and XM Module with the new VIN).

The supercharger is designed engine specific. The only thing you need to find out is if GM has the reflash not only for the J-body but the N-body as well, like they did for the 2.4 supercharger.

Well, it may be a little body specific for the mounting of the intercooler. I don't have the resources for the supercharger right now (gotta pay off the flat-screen TV first) so I'm not going to worry about it.

Shouldnt you dyno tune the car instead of just using a base flash? My boyfriend just finished installing his Supercharger on his C5... He has been fooling with HPTuners and now has the car running with the new injectors good enough to get it to the Dyno. Guess the basemaps were way to rich or something... He's used to Hondata and said that the GM stuff is harder. Either way it seems like he always uses these base maps as a starting point? Is the 4cyl HPTuners software out? That kit should bolt up in an Ecotec Alero - right? Are all Ecotec heads the same casting? I don't know I'm still learning myself... It really is cool!!!

He also raves about some Innovate LM-1 Wideband thing. That, along with a laptop is always in one of the cars...

yeah it was kinda over priced since the one straight from gm is cheaper than what it ended at

Well, it's one thing if you're using a generic flash for the supercharger setup, however the "base flash" is not really generic that comes with the supercharger kit. It's designed by GM specifically to go onto the Ecotec 2.2 with the 5-speed manual and be emissions compliant and all that other good stuff. It's not like GM would sell it if it wasn't at least decent. It may not be optimal for power though.
