What is the best way to improve gas mileage and engine performance. I saw someone talking about talking off the air filter box and just adding a cone type filter. Will this doing anything? What else should i be looking at

A Wai or Cai would give very small performance and maby even a decrease in gas mileage. Do like I did buy a Hyundai and get 29 mpg, with the same performance. I also had a Alero with the 2.4 so the performance is about the same as my Elantra.
