Engine Coolant Question...

Does the Pontiac G6 use the same coolant as the Alero? My cousins coolant light came on in her car and i have a gallon for the Alero that i never used. Just seeing if i could finally use that 15 bucks worth of coolant.

if her coolant light is on, then theres somethin wrong with the vehicle lol, i'd take it to a shop and let them figure out what's wrong with it, then let them add more fluid.

You live in Texas, just add water. Purified or distilled.

you can just add water.... as long as your not in an area where it can freeze easily.

Ive ran my 1986 Camaro just on water for a couple of weeks during summer. Only down side is when you are stuck in traffic, and the water is boiling, steam gets out of the hood lolol

Also, if the light come on one time, maybe she took a curve to sharp before the pressure had build up in the system, and the sensor detected missing coolant for a second. It happened to me some times with the Alero.

In the south, you don't need the freeze protection of coolant.... All you need is the corrosion protection, which as long as you have as least some coolant in the system then you'll be fine.

Coolant is also used to "cool" the engine in warm weather climates. It raises the boiling point of water and helps to prevent overheating.
