Alt Pulley Removal

So i got the pulley from EXCESSIVE AMPERAGE, and went to change it... and it occurs to me... i have no idea how.

I'm guessing i have to remove the alt. since i don't see how i could get it off in the space provided (espicially with an impact gun) and in that case, if i'm taking it off, i mind as well take it over to a parts place and have them swap it.

But... (incase anyone else searches)

I read that with hand tools (not an pulley puller) you have to take the nut off, while holding the center shaft with a hexkey. how does that work? they are inside the current pulley? if you put a socket on the nut, how would you get a hex key inside to hold it??? i'm really missing something here.

Take the alternator off. Get an impact wrench and a very large slipjoint pliers, wrap a thick piece of rubber around the pulley to protect it and hold it with the pliers, remove with the impact.

Yeah, now just imagine how much of an impact that will have of the bearings... Less weight ='s Less stress

took it to Autozone, they swapped it in no time. also picked up some dielectric grease, just to be sure i won't be doing this again soon.

looks like at full boar, i'm pushing 15.1 Volts now... i'll update after i'm out driving and it idles down, to see how much higher it'll be.

Well the weights about meaningless. I mean you DO have a belt with tension on it, therefore its weight.

The weight may not seem like much when you consider the tension of the belt, but it does have an impact on the bearings and will have less stress on them.
Glad to hear you're happy with it and that it does what it's supposed to do for a higher charge at idle on a different alt than Excessive... I believe you are the first to try one of these on another brand of alt and if you get a chance I'd love it if you could send me a pic of it.

definitely can.

don't be too surprised, if it looks like a slightly shinier pulley on a normal looking alternator.

Well I know what they look like since I'm the one that manufactures them LOL
I'd just like to have a pic on different style for when we go to market them to other companies
