Mine does the same thing. I thought about a 180 degree t-stat. But will that mess with my fuel economy?

thermostats set the minimum temperature for the engine, not the max

your car will still get to whatever temp it is now, will just take slightly longer to get there

what I did was lower both fan turn-on point (you need hptuner) it helped me maintain a constant temperature of 180-185* anytime when at idle or on traffic or waiting in line at the drag strip...

verify with an infrared temp gun or a scan tool what your actual coolant temp is too. who knows. maybe your gauge is just a hair off and you could have been only a degree away from the fans coming on.

Having an aeroforce scan gauge I can confirm that the gauge on the car can be inaccurate... not a whole lot but enough to scare you.

I've had mine go up to the 3/4 mark before without the fans ever coming on too. I don't know if what caused it, but after a while it just returned to normal like before just as it did with Jeremy. I've had my fans come on in cooler coolant temperature conditions than when it was at the 3/4 mark so I'm not sure that the coolant temp alone is the deciding factor of the fan turn on.

Since I've had the Ultraguage and a ton of coolant problems I keep a sharp eye on the engine temp and the temp gauge will have the hand mid way while driving and the ultraguage reads about 194\195 then when I idle it will creep up to about 204\205...and the hand will be just above the midway mark. I guess my point is its really nice to have a number to go with what you are seeing.
