I am replacing all of my speakers in my car and may possibly add some subs. What brand should I go for? I was thinking of maybe Boston Acoustics, JL Audio XR series, or Infiniti Kappas. Basically I want the best sound from highs to lows. Give me some ideas please.

Boston accoustics make some wicked (for the price) home theater stuff, and if thats any indication, I'd suggest Boston. If they are outta your price range, I'd say an Alpine Type R or two would do the trick too...

here's what i suggest. whatever brand YOU like. that's what i tell all my customers. it's your car and you should do what makes you happy and what you think sounds the best. all those brands are very reputable.

I have all Eclipse components...4x6's and 6x9's and I love them. Sound awesome. Subs I have Protechs and they are kinda like sleepers...Not that many people think much about them or anything, but they sound awesome and pound real hard.

I have Infinity subs and speakers and love the look and sound of them (not installed yet but I've tested them a bunch of times already). And like sound says, get what you like/want, I did

Boston Acoustic 6x9 2-ways should run you about $120 a set, and if you get the 746 series plate component 4x6 for the doors, it'll run $140 or so. That's the setup I have, but if you check the thread on 6.5" component installation, you can get a good set of BA components to replace your tweeter in the upper door as well for around $300. You actually lose a little thump in the back over the stock speakers, but the clarity you pick up is well worth it, esp. if you're installing a sub as well.

Yeah Im going to check out the JL XR series tomorrow. I think Ill go with these because you can get some sick deals off of ebay. But nothings going to happen until I get my satellite radio hooked up.

By the way can I fit a 5.25" speaker in the door and a 1" tweeter? This may be what makes up my mind with what brand to go with.

Oh yeah Havik, post some pics of your car on your cardomain site. I've also got a 2003 Black GX 5 speed.

Ok I have been reading up on this. I was not going to do anything with my stereo system until I found out that I could get the whole satellite system for free through my work. Now that I need to get a new headunit, it seems that I have to relocate the stock head unit to the trunk. From what Ive read it is going to cost a bill to do this (relocation harness, speaker for chimes, etc.). Is there any other way that I could keep the chimes on my car and avoid doing this?

:huh?: Relocate the stock unit to the trunk? Most people just buy an XM-ready head unit and use a faceplate- and yes, late model aleros DO need that chime module- it keeps everything working properly. GM put the chime module inside the head unit, so removing it removes your chime and interrupts your serial data BUS.
It also gives you a true 12 volt source, the other available wiring harnesses require you to find another 12 volt source.

its 2001+ that needs the relocation harness. For the speaker I just used the frond speaker that whould of been tossed anyway and moved it to the inside of the center consol in the front and faced it foward. Definatly loud enough.

This may sound stupid but I thought I the stocks were 5X7/6X8 not 6X9. I was going to replace them with the JL XR series 5X7 components and they dont make the 6X9 XRs. Is this a good or bad idea? I heard them in the store and they blew all the other brands and sizes away.
