I was researching wai and cai systems, and I know that there are bypass valves for you cai in case of puddle mishaps but I found something else too. Apparently Weapon R makes what they call a cold air box. Looks to me like a airbox that you set your wai in to isolate from engine compartment heat and to draw off of factory air duct. Has anyone tried these yet. If so are they worth the $80 or just another idea that looks good on paper and for peace of mind but doesnt perform well.

Well, here is the official spiel, pic, and link for the box.

Weapon*R's new Cold Air boxes are made of high quality aluminum, to shield horsepower robbing heat from the filter. You never have to worry about driving on a rainy day anymore. The Weapon*R Cold Air Box is the answer to the enthusiasts who want cold air intake performance, but are weary of the dangers which come with conventional cold air kits.

The Cold Airbox was designed utilizing technology seen in many forms of racing, like WRC Racing which dirt is a major factor. This kit isolates the filter in the engine compartment away from dirt and water, which can cause serious engine damage. By isolating the filter and allowing the engine to draw air from a cold source in the engine compartment, away from horsepower robbing heat

I've been looking into this also. Nice find. It's vehicle specific so it looks as though it would bolt into the stock airbox location. To use a Cavalier box on an Alero, you'd probably have to modify it a little but I'm sure it'll fit. If it uses the factory air duct in the fender to suck air in through, I would replace that with a pipe, or flexible hose, of the same diameter the intake pipe is, and then run that down into the fender, so it's basically a true cold air intake with the filter out of the direct path from water and debris. Not a bad idea.

technically, it's a great idea. But with a 2.4 engine, you had better have some fabbing skills cuz there's no kit for the 2.4.

You must be talking about the wai. I personally dont know, never had a stock alero dynoed after only installing a wai LOL. Kinda seems like a waste to do it for just that

I agree with the hp comments. there's no way that you'll get 7-13 hp with just an intake on the 2.4L.
