Idiot Epiphany
So.. i was going through and remodding my gauge cluster. I also attempted to do the glow needle mod yalero did(and take it up one more step) but i failed. Not enough room, patients, or correct tools to finish the job. oh well.
but while i did it, i decided my wiring back there needs some fixing. Many led folks on here can agree, doing certain projects, you tend you half ass due to time constraints or just personal impatients to see a final project. So i was reworking that.... and cleaning it up. which, worked perfectly. Reds/Blues... all cleaned up and working just as they should.
...except one small problem.....
it seems.. in the general brilliance of the moment... i thought it would be a GREAT idea, total "I'm AN IDIOT" thought process, for not realizing it earlier, that i could wire the whole thing differently, and get a much easier result, with same functionality. Meaning, i can now turn my vent/door backlighting off, but keep my gauges on. AWESOME!
....it was only until that night, that i realized... i indeed... was an idiot. not only did it not work, but now i had pink/purple gauges. Thats right, i wired both the red and blue power lines directly to the constant power for the circuit. Completely bypassing the switch that controls color.
So, just a helpful reminder. If your doing a wiring project... and you suddenly think, this is amazing, i found a shortcut. please, by all means, question yourself and think things through.
and just to add that last step of self humiliation... i did take a picture for you all to chuckle at.
and for the guys who know nothing about wiring, this is 100% purely reversible. i just need to move 2 wires back to where they should have originally been.

its slightly more purple then pink. which, granted, the colors mix well for being two separate leds.
if someone cared to play around, you can do the exact same thing, just sand the tip of one of the leds and not the other. so you'll end up with an aura of one color and a pin point "hotspot" in another w/ a varying degree of mixing inbetween.
almost make your gauges tyedye.

Its kinda like mine, but i have mostly blue leds but for the lights behind the red line and behind the gas gauges are red, so when its on the tach slowly turns from blue to red and the same with the speedo. another thing i didnt expect from doing this is, as you rpm needle shifts from bright blue to red as you increase rpms.

By the way, I tried to mod my cluster too 2 days ago, I put 5 regular red 194 bulb in there. Maybe they doesnt glow enough, because : 1 - its dark as hell 2 - its as a pinky color lol. I'll try to get a pic of that crap.
I'll get some red 194 leds bulb and hope they will glow more.
