3/4 gone and I've only driven 157 miles highway....

sh*t 3/4 of my tank gone and thats all I get for gas milage! this problem came back again.... it has come gone now for the last few months, usually I can tell because I will try to start the car, it fires up and dies right away, then on the second attempt starts right up but a little rough.

I think its either a coil or injector, everything else has been well maintained and changed by me. fuel filter, oil, plugs, wires...

how do I diagnose a bad coil exactly?

Sure you don't have any lead implants in your driving shoes? I know when I first got my 'ho I had the same kind of gas mileage. Perhaps its not mechanical, but the driver?

Also, checked the air filter recently?

I used to get 200 miles a tank in my RX-8 270 if I was easy on the gas. The longer I owned my alero I did find the millage dropped a lot but not that much.

AIT sensor mod? lol Eric gave me his and I was expecting to lose mileage...I'm actually getting better mileage now. I'd usually get 50 miles for a quarter tank with city driving...I'm up to 72 for that first quarter...so far.

Try a fuel injector cleaner. I used one and gained a few more mpg. Dirty fuel injector can kill too.

hmmm.... I use techron religiously, every oil change and some.

Its definately missing and running rich, but no codes. I once had a "too rich" code, but not recently, it still runs like shit.

Like I said, this was highway driving MPG NjRef511, meaning cruise control set at 70-74mph. Im not a lead foot driver either, and I said I take good care of my car.. I've had many times where I get 70+ per 1/4 tank - so I know its a bigger issue than that.

I hate this car, looks good. but man, for this gas milage I wish I woulda kept my jeep.

told ya. lmao. I'm far from a believer that this is a real performance mod of any sort, but once I set that up on my car, I couldn't bring myself to take it off. Mileage increases can be found on the 3400 aswell.

highway driving (consistently) I've found this to be true:

at 65mpg you should get 100 miles per 1/4 tank
at 75mpg you should get about 80 miles per 1/4 tank

city driving:
60-70 miles per 1/4 tank

if you want the mpg never go above 3000rpm

yeah... I should be getting ATLEAST 70miles per 1/4, and my car isn't coming close.

shitty thing is, the car is fine again now (for now..) this problem is very intermittant, it comes and goes. i can tell because my throttle gets a little shuddery around 2K when accelerating and the top end acceleration is total crap.

so, back on topic. what should I change first, coils or injectors?

I think Eric found it on eBay. I think it's listed as on of those things that gived you "20hp" for plugging it in. there is a tad of a power gain (nowhere near 20hp...more like 1.5hp), but I noticed the mileage easily also.

dude that sucks, i ussually get like 100miles to my first quarter. then like 350-400miles to the tank. and all I've got is a civic intake, and use fuel cleaner once a month.
