Does anyone know if you can put the 5 speed manual transmission on the 3.4 liter engine? and if not, can I get a manual tranny that will work.

yeah, but the problem with talking to springs is to do it like him, or the general idea, you need to have a big wallet

Oh boy, here we go again! Have fun, and that's all I'm going to say. If you want a fast manual car, go buy a civic or something. They can be fast for half the price of putting a manual tranny on the 3400 (it's not a 3.4, unless you have an Impala or Monte).

it is not that he does the expensive stuff it is that he does it the right way to assure maxium performance and reliability, and that does not always come cheap

There are 5 manual transmissions that will bolt to the 3400

1) Getrag 282
2) Getrag 284
3) Isuzu
4) Getrag 287
5) FGP 40

The FGP 40 would be best but seeing as that isn't out yet (it will be the 6-speed in the G6 GTP). The easiest one would be the Getrag 287, as it's the stock 5-speed in the alero, you just need the "M94" version that was installed in 2000-2002 Cavaliers and Sunfires with the 2200 OHV engine.

The Isuzu isn't recommended, because it was used on the lower output engines and probably wouldn't take too well to all the torque of the 3400. The Getrag 284 is a good transmission, but parts availability is nonexistent, and supposedly the pull-type clutch causes excessive wear on the crankshaft. The Getrag 282 is the old standby that most use and it was very popular, however the newest ones are from 1994

are you sure they will bolt right on to the same engine we have, does your beretta have the 3400 drop in?, cause im sure john looked into that and he just ended uo having to make all his own custom parts, but i could be horribly wrong, cause if this is the case then im soon to have a manual transmission

The 287 also came mated to the 00+ 2.4s (sunfires, cavys, GAs, aleros, etc). The isuzu is came mated to the 2.4 from 96-99 and is just considered junk. The 282 is strong as a "brick sh!t house" and came bolted to the 3100 so you figure out if it matches up

Whoops, I thought both the newer Monte and Impala came with the 3.4 as the base motor. Anyway, the easiest option would be to swap in one of the four cylinder motors with a manual transmission. They could be just as fast as the 3400.

i know the impala's came with the same 3400 as us, it was a smart ass comment in response to "alero's dont have 3.4's, they have 3400's". 3.4's as in the dohc 3.4 in older w-bodys, that the monte had, but back then there was no impala, the lumina could be had with a 3.4 though
