Cosmo Racing WAI + K&N Question
I've done some research and I've settled to purchase the Cosmo Racing WAI for my 2.2L Ecotec Alero. I read that the K&N filters are superior to other filters out there. Where can I purchase K&N filters (their website is down), and does anyone who owns one know what filter will fit on this WAI? Thanks!

you measure the pipe outlet and get a filter that'll fit over it...

Haha, I figured as such. I was just trying to purchase it ahead of time, so both arrive at the same time.

Apparently forum users have found dust and small pebbles on the inside of the Cosmo Racing filter after use. It appeared that the general consensus was than the K&N cone filters were the best available.

I have a cosmo WAI and am still using the filter that came with it. I have not had that issue. You can use the K&N recharge kit to clean and oil your filter if you chose to. Cosmo recommends use both with or without the K&N charge kit. There are benefits and ramifications to using the oil with the cone filter. You should be fine as long as you are not bathing the filter with oil. I know that some people have had issues with downstream component failure caused from filter oil.

i did not experience any gains with a WAI or short ram intake. CAI, yes.
if you get the cosmo, purchase the v6 CAI from chromeintakes on ebay, take the filter off and attach the new tubing. it'll give you a nice CAI for your ecotec. and you will have much fun getting the resonator off the car ;D

Thanks for clarifying the issue Alero_1986.
darkobsession: I want the WAI because it will give me more power in the low RPM range, and it is not very often, if at all, I would need the gains in the high RPM range that a CAI produces. I don't go racing around, and only typically need high RPM when merging onto a busy highway. However, it'd be nice to have the lower RPM gains, plus the added fuel efficiency.

Darksobsession, either you got a bad engine that you didn't get any gains, or you don't know what you're talking about. Yes, the gains are minimal, mainly getting more AND better flowing air...looking at more of a torque increase though. I was never able to even chirp the tires stock, then when I put my WAI on, it was no problem. (Now I run straight pipe and I have trouble keeping grip...lol)

it's all good with the engine... all i'm saying is that i didn't get any noticeable gains from a WAI.
chirping the tires isn't an intake issue... you're starting from a standstill and the air isn't flowing anywhere. 's more transmission.

So I just received the Cosmo Racing Wai, and the instructions tell me to "oil the filter using the K&N recharge kit", is this important to do, or should it be avoided?
