spare key?

i need another key for my alero, but i heard that i needed to program a little chip inside of the key in order for it to start the car(because of the security system).is this true because its sounds like b/s.i thought i could just go to ace hardware and have them cut me another key and it would work
anyone have experience?

Nope, the Alero has Passlock which doesn't need the key to be programmed.

Passkey is the one that needs the key programmed.
