Exclamation Hazard Switch Repair

I'm looking at the internals of the switch.. and only really see one spot where this thing can fail....

will be an easy fix if i'm right.

Can someone find me a pin out for the harzard switch harness??

ok... according to the top right corner in this pic...

it looks like purple is what powers our turning signals?

i'm thinking... what would be the worst thing to happen if i spliced a 12V constant into that purple line? thus if the hazard stops giving power, the 12V line still will. (no more faulty hazard issue)

anyone see any problems with this?

no-one? no opinions/ideas?

i know its only been about 1.5 hrs... but i'd prefer to not have to wait multiple days to get an idea on wether that should work or not.

i was thinking i should probably also put a diode in, just after (closer to the harness) the splice, so the power from the added line, only flows one way, and not actually into the harness. so it doesn't interfere w/ anything.

fail. doesn't work.

apparently the timing circuit for the turning signals, is IN the hazard switch. so by bypassing that, the lights work... but don't blink. just turn on.

balls.

was trying to find a way to get the turning signals to work, w/o the hazard switch. by pass it completely (incase it begins to fail, like mine is)

i was hoping for a solution outside of getting a new one.... but that didn't pan out very well. look like i gotta pony up the $26 to order a new one.

gmpartsdirect $14 for the switch $12 for shipping.

i can post some pics of the inside of the switch... its not as easy as some may think. there aren't really any solderable contacts. its mostly sliding contacts, similar to our dome light.

i walked into the junkyard grabbed the switch and tried to pay for but they gave me it for free... they don that for pretty much anything that isn't a substantial part at my local yard.

i'd rather have a new one... since a junkyard version might be just as crappy.

Yeah at those prices I would just buy a new one. But you could get the old time bullet flashers and run those through the switch and bypass the the hazard switch. I haven't really looked at the wiring or anything but you could take the signal lights off of the hazard switch all together. Now what I don't know is if the car will throw a code with the lights being completely off the circuit. I think so! To much work stick with a new one...PLUG AND PLAY

You could just wire in a generic flasher.

I wired in a generic flasher in my Malibu. Had the same issue, the stock one was fried. I junked the Mali over the summer, or I would post some pics. Took me about an hour to do the job, you have to get the wiring just right.
