99 Alero missing really bad

my 99 alero started missing really bad today. it is 2.4L. On Friday, I replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor, because it was leaking oil from it. Once I replaced it, it quit leaking but by this time oil had soaked everything. I drove it all weekend and it was fine. Today (Tuesday), it is missing really bad. I pulled the plugs and 2 of them were oil soaked pretty bad. I replaced all of them and it didnt seem to help all that much. It is better but still bogs down really bad when you try to drive it. Any suggestions?

hmm...same symptoms mine had...i hope not the same problem. I had to get my coil pack, injectors, and spark plugs replaced because they were burnt out, and my cat replaced because it was clogged with all the dumped gas. Luckily I had a cat on order anyway...so that saved me some money.

Well it it soaked EVERYTHING as you said it could be a number of problems... start by checking the spark plug wires, then move to ALL of the sensors it got on.

pull everything you can see, and give it a good cleaning.

maybe give the engine a good internal cleaning with some kind of seafoam like product? (dont quote me on this, it might be a terrible idea. wait for someone else to 2nd this notion. )

start with the easiest and least expensive solutions first. injector cleaner will help. my problems started when I started letting my gas tank get almost empty (riding the E with the light on for about 50 miles...multiple times) and the injectors started clogging, hence the start of the misfiring. don't let it get too bad.

eff seafoam!

any codes?

look at the coilpack housing, are there any dark marks on it? is it cracked?

the camshaft tower cover gaskets tend to leak, sometimes on the spark plug side of things, as mine did, which makes the plugs all oily and it works its way down there to cause misfires. but since the problem didn't go away with plug changing that tells me oil must have affected something else, likely electrical.

mine was cracked and charred too. that was also replaced. Seriously, get it all checked out. the sooner you figure it out, the cheaper it's going to be.

ended up being a ignition coil. it was code p302 (cylinder 2 misfire). changed the coil again and all is good for now.
