Folding Rear Seats
Did all aleros have fold down rear seats or only certain ones? It doesn't look like mine can fold down but how do I know for sure?

The latches are in the trunk. To escape a carjacking if locked in the trunk

thought thats why our cars have trunk latches inside the trunk? (to open the trunk)
if you got car jacked, and stuffed into the trunk... your just asking for further problems, if you crawl out into the cabin, while the guy is still driving somewhere....
i mean.. hes already beaten you once, and stuffed you into the trunk... the 2nd time isn't going to go much better.

lol, not all aleros had the split rear seat option. i think it was only optional on GX models until like 2002 or 2003 and maybe even optional on GL1 models too.

Actually, the glowing yellow handle is to get out of the trunk if you're locked in. The reason the seat latches are in the trunk is so that it is secure from inside the car. Many cars would have a separate Valet key that would only operate the drivers door and ignition switch so that a valet, etc.. can't go through your glove box or trunk.

I dont think the glove box is very safe from intrusion.. seems like the handle is very easy to break off and easy to open up even if locked..
trunk is another story lol

trunk isn't bad to break in to, i used my alero key to open another alero's trunk lol (when i had a junkyard trunk put on my car, the key is different but mine will work if you wiggle it)

those cloth straps suck... i have to yank them several times before the seats will go down, even if i hear the click of them opening.

the seats aren't spring loaded. you have to have enough force on them to push them open. (sometimes a really good tug on the strap, sometimes just pushing on the seat itself.)

now try getting them down with a big piece of wood separating the backs of the seats from the trunk (to mount amps on) i really gotta find a way to get my seats to open from the inside..

I took the straps and buckles right out. the seats are kinda tight in the opening...but they might pop open slamming on the brakes doing a 70-0mph

yeah... i'd like to avoid that.
maybe connect something into the latches in the back, so i can run a cable out infront of each seat, so i can pull that instead of the straps in the trunk. all i'd need is a pulley, some metal wire w/ a loop and a self tapping metal screw... hmmm....
