GI: Want to run REAL Corvette brakes?
I'm just trying to get an idea of if anyone would be interested in some adapter brackets so that they could run a complete genuine Corvette brake setup. The swap that I had before was using F-Body components. With the Corvette setup you have more options on sizes of brakes which would work for performance and show if you have some big wheels!
The adapter bracket would bolt on to your stock spindle using the stock caliper mounts. A genuine Corvette C5/C6 caliper bracket (or the caliper if using a Z06 setup) would then bolt to the adapter. What this means is that you can choose from many of the available stock or aftermarket setups available for the C5/C6.
Just with the stock setup you have choices of:
C5(all) C6 (base) 12.8" rotor. These rotors are directional. The vanes inside of them are curved for better cooling!
C6 Z51 - 13.4" rotor using the same caliper as the 12.8" setup.
C6 Z06 - 14.0" and the massive 6-piston calipers.
It may even be possible to get a extended bracket to be able to use the 2-piston caliper with the 14.0" rotor. That way you don't have to worry about wheel clearance!
I have no hard idea on what the price would be for these brackets right now, I would have the range (depending on the number of people that want them) at from $100 to $300. I am working with a local machinist who has done brake adapters before. I will have a better idea once he sees the whole setup.

As for when... probably not until spring.

I voted yes, with a caveat that the price ends up much closer to the $100 than the $300. Maybe $150 tops. Brakes are coming in the spring for me anyway.

I'm along the same lines as everybody else. I'm interested but don't have the funds now or when spring comes around...but maybe around fall....but it ultimately comes down to cost.

I would also be interested come spring, but it still would depend my financial situation at the time and the final price of the bracket as well as the bigger rotors.

No, the 12.8 requires 17" wheels. The 13.4 and 14.0 require 18" wheels. I should've included that in the original post... If you want to use stock 16" wheels the 12" F-Body setup is the largest you can go. The stock ones are the most you'll fit under 15" wheels.
Just to get an idea if the brakes will work with your wheels kore3 has some wheel fitment templates on their site..

Would the 12.8 rotors fit under the 16 inch Grand Prix wheels?
I use the 16" at the track, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if I couldn't run the 16's anymore.
WHat about the master cyl? would that have to be changed to run 4 pistion calipers?

Probably not on the 16s, the general rule of thumb is that you need a wheel 4 inches larger than your rotor.
As for the master cylinder. It shouldn't really be an issue, the Alero has dynamic brake proportioning. It would be running the same caliper I already have on my Alero, and it's WAY better than stock. Heck, even Oldsman has the stock master cylinder with his brembos.

OK, I got a word back from him. The target price is UNDER $125 for the pair of brackets! There is also some interest for a rear upgrade over at GAGT. Anyone interested in that? The options are 12" (base), 13" (C6/Z51), 13.4" (C6/Z06). The first two with a single piston caliper, The last with a 4-piston caliper *or* a different bracket to use the single piston caliper.

Under $125 is a go for me on the fronts, and I'm stoked to hear about a rear upgrade finally! Cliff, you're the man!

If I got the 12.8 set-up, it will be 4 piston calipers?

Very interested in a 12", single-piston setup for the rear brakes - hopefully they can be made to retain the factory parking brake setup.
And you can fit 6-piston calipers under 17" wheels.......but you must size everything very carefully.

4 piston? There's people that have modded a porsche caliper to fit the 12.8" rotor, but otherwise it's a 6 piston caliper. The problem with those calipers is how far they stick out from the surface (clearance with the face of the wheel).
Using the 6 piston caliper with the 12.8" rotor probably wouldn't be possible because of how the mounting locations are. That in itself would require a different adapter bracket because of the spacing on the caliper mounts.
If any company makes a 4-piston front that uses a 12.8 or 13" rotor that fits a Corvette, you should be able to run it.

The good thing about the parking brake is that the C5/6 and the Alero use a very similar parking brake, the Alero shoe is just a touch smaller. I do have almost a complete rear brake setup for a C5 and the Alero in the garage, So I can figure that out ahead of time.
