As long as you don't go any faster than you normally do, the braking doesn't change whatsoever.

Exactly bigger brakes do make a difference no matter what, your going to stop a hell of a lot faster if a kid runs across street with bigger brakes compared to your stock brakes. I personally like the Idea of the Corvette brake conversion I just need to read up on it some more first.

Those calipers are huge. You'd definitely need to find wheels to fit over the Z06 calipers. Or use some high-offset wheels with spacers.

I know it's been a while, but I haven't lost interest... I just sent out a spare spindle for the machinist to mock-up the adapter brackets for this setup. (thanks to surreal_awakening!!)
I'll also look at having a rotor-drilling jig made to adapt the 5x120.67 rotors to the 5x115 hub. That way anyone with a drill and 12mm (or maybe more commonly available 1/2"?) drill will be able to do their own rotors.

I'm interesting in fronts for that price, and please keep us updated about the rears (cost and such). If I can I'll do all 4 wheels with these brakes...but only if natedawg can make me some brake caliper stickers that say Alero with the O as the OSV emblem in a black color :3.

Haha... Well, for the rears the best thing to do is Grand Prix GXP brakes.. Unfortunately the issues with the rear are more with the size of the parking brake.

Just an update. The stock knuckle is soon to be measured out by a FARO arm to be dimensioned out for the adapter brackets.

Unfortunately he had some issues and the R&D had to be stopped for the meantime. I just got an email from him. I'll get back to him when I get home from vacation.

Tobin and I talked breifly about rear brakes.
I still think the best solution is to either use a complete Grand Prix GXP setup, or somewhat of a hybrid setup (which I'm leaning toward) using plain GXP rotors (which are cheaper and more durable than the OE GXP drilled rotors), GXP abutment brackets and C5/C6 rear cailpers.
I'm certain if there was enough interest in a full-monty rear setup Tobin could probably handle it.

I think the rear setup from the GXP is more than adequate for what we need. It's not that far off from the regular C5/C6 stuff.
What's the difference in coverage from the C5/C6 pads to the GXP pads?
Does he need any parts? I should have another whole knuckle sitting on the shelf, as well as a set of rear disc ones. Also, these parts will fit WAY more than just the N-Body cars.
The Kore3 stuff looks amazing, I didn't think of contacting them before. I think the guy who I was trying to get it worked out with either got really slow or possibly laid off ?

C5/C6 pad (FMSI D731) is 7.23"Lx2.48"W.
GXP pad (FMSI D921) is 7.18"Lx1.98"W.
Tobin was going to try to get measurements from GM, and if he got those then he'd be able to put something together fairly quickly.
If not, he'd need parts. We'll see what he comes up with.
Looks like C5 rotors use the same centerbore hole size, so we'd just be looking at re-drilling for our bolt pattern.
Here's a copy of the email I sent to him after our telephone conversation:
Tobin:
Thank you for speaking with me earlier today.
I was directed to you by some very informative threads on a Camaro message board.
I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero that I would like to fit Corvette C5 brakes onto.
The vehicle is primarily a street vehicle, although I do at times road race with it (HPDE events).
Currently, I have a Baer Track+ front brake setup installed, which uses 13x1.1" directionally-ventilated 2-piece rotors and twin-piston PGC calipers (similar to RPO J55 on a C4 Corvette).
I would like to use pin-drive C5 calipers and their 12.8x1.25" directionally-ventilated rotors, was hoping you could help with fitment.
My OEM brakes are directly interchangable with 97-03 W-bodies, so there is some opportunity for multiple platform support.
Rear brakes are currently stock, but I plan to use a rear setup from a 2005-2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, which uses 12x0.8" vented and drilled rotos and single-piston PBR pin-drive calipers. I do not think a full C5 setup will work on the rear due to the drum-in-hat parking brake.
The bolt circle pattern is 5x115mm and I believe the hub size is 70.3mm.
Please let me know if you can assist.
In case anyone else wants to contact him (it'd help if we had some other people show interest), email info@kore3.com.

Response from Tobin today:
Matt,
I submitted a request to GM for the brake and suspension models and they are no longer supplying that information for those cars and offered no reason as to why not. That basically leaves us with the option to reverse engineer an OE knuckle assembly and/or your current brake kit components in order to design a C5/C6 kit for that application. Without a knuckle to determine feasibility, we can’t really say what will be required for the conversion or even estimate a cost. You probably have a better idea at this point having installed the Baer Track kit already.
If you’re interested in moving forward, please let us know. We would need a knuckle assembly, left front is preferred, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be one from your car if you would prefer to source one from a wrecking yard, craigslist, forum, etc.

Tobin Knighton

And my reply to him:
Tobin:
That is disappointing but not surprising.
I'm sure I can source a LF knuckle for you to mock something up on.
Would you need an entire knuckle with an OE brake setup or is just the knuckle with the wheel bearing/hub assembly adequate?
I have several other people who are interested in this already; if you want you can see the forum thread @ http://www.aleromod.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24836.
I would like to move this forward, and I thank you for your assistance.
Matt
