Rearview light / map light size
I found threads with information that could lead me to believe a couple different things... so, what's the verdict - in the 2002, is the map light a 194 bulb or a 212-2 festoon? I wouldn't think it's a festoon, it doesn't look like it would fit but http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...RG-Results.htm gave me "Map Light: 212-2 festoon".
Help before I order, please?

I ended up ordering 194 for the map lights - even though the Sylvania tool specifies 212-2, the socket type isn't right for a festoon.

44mm festoon bulb. I have 44mm LED festoon bulbs in both map lights and the dome light. They fit right in. 194 bulbs will not fit into the socket.
I guess you should've waited longer than half an hour to get an answer before ordering

How is that? The festoon bulbs have 2 ends and the map light has a 'peanut' bulb in it.
Could you take a picture please

This is what the stock map light bulbs look like
212-2
This would be the LED replacement for that bulb
44mm Festoon
This is a 194 bulb. There's no way for this bulb to fit ^^that type of socket.
I'm talking about the front map lights, the two lights on the bottom side of the rearview mirror.
If you're referring to the rear map lights, the two lights on the back of the center dome light, then yes the 194 bulbs are what you want.

Ah ok, thanks. I just thought it was a 194 because the bulb sits in there like a peanut bulb would, not with the visible 2 ends of a festoon like the festoon in the dome light sits in the socket. Get what I'm sayin?

http://autolumination.com/
and he linked his from http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/ but that's in euros and probably expensive shipping to the U.S.

Not at all, but I do like peanuts on my ice cream
If you pop the lenses off the map lights, you'll see the exact same socket that you see in the dome light.

Yeah, I just did go and pop it off. There is no doubt about it, it's a 194 bulb. I guess my Alero (2002 Alero 4dr) is different than yours lol, I'll take a pic if I ever get a decent camera lol. Thanks anyway though, the order was cancelled but I'll re-order it now.

I installed the 194 bulbs today into the rearview mirror reading lights / map lights and I can confidently say they are 194 bulbs and not 212-2s. 2002 alero sedan 3.4L, sport package (spoiler/black side mirrors/etc). I dunno if my car is just special or what :P
Tip to anyone else trying to get those pesky bulbs out: wrap packing tape around the end of the bulb and THEN try yanking on it, using the tape as a "handle". Otherwise, with that stupid chrome reflective shield around it, it's difficult to get your fingers in there and it's a bulb so pliers won't do well against it

Weird that they would put a different rearview mirror in different year cars.

Is there some trick to getting new 194 bulbs working in the screw sockets for my rear map lights in the dome fixture? I got the old ones out but the new ones wont turn on...any suggestions? Anyone know which bulbs to buy at superbrightleds.com that have the whole assembly?

yea, the 2001 and up GM cars used a different style rearview mirror than the 2000 and unders did, they look completely different, My cobalt has the one that the 2002 would have and my alero has the older style.
