Anyone know the RMS/Peak for the stock Monsoon amp?

I could take a stab at it, but I may not be right at all

My Camaro has the Monsoon amp in it as well... and in my honest opinion, it blows. I hooked up my old Boston Acoustics amp in 2 channel mode, wired the sail panel and rear hatch speakers in series mode (8ohms overall each side) and it sounded much much louder and clearer than the stock monsoon amp. Those speakers were seeing 100 watts each RMS.

With that being said, I'm now powering my front speakers with the head unit and it sounds just the same as it does with the Monsoon amp... Granted the Alero doesn't power the fronts with the monsoon, and the Camaro has 2ohm speakers in the front (which in turn lowers the wattage the normal 4ohm speakers get), I would guestimate that the Monsoon amp makes no more than 40 watts per speaker at a constant and no more than 100 at peak.

Remember this is based off my experience with it, and the fact that my Grand Am had the tweeters but not the Monsoon amp.

If you really want to get serious about your mids and highs, I would recommend that you ditch the monsoon amp and get yourself a good 4 channel amp. It will cost more, BUT the sound is worth it. I really don't see the Monsoon amp making more than 40 at best, but realistically it may put out 25 watts on average.

Also, remember that these cars were built before CEA-2006, so there's no real way to tell since they weren't built to be CEA-2006 compliant.

I have no idea since my car didn't have one, otherwise I would have looked into it.

Yeah, I' am debating scraping the Monsoon and getting two amps one for the 6x9's and one for the 4x6's. I know the SoundStream SST6.9's are 100rms 300 peaks. Thinking of going Infiniti Kappas for both sets.

Get a better known brand than "soundstream". If money is an issue, think CL. I rather have a used 4 channel Alpine or Memphis Audio amp than a brand new off brand amp that isn't what people say it is.

Naw amps are probably going to be Pioneer or kenwood the Soundstreams are the 6x9's I run. Hard to find Bi-amplified 6x9's. They are one of the few companies that make em. Not bad speakers to be honest for less than 100 bones.

I thought about a 4 channel amp but the power differance is to great. We're talking max rms of 40 for the 4x6's and minimum of 100rms for the 6x9. I' am just going to power the Polk 4x6's off the new pioneer 5500BHS deck for now then get two seperate amps which will total 3 including my Kenwood 8105D Sub amp.

So long you can score them for cheap, I say go for it. Since you don't need much power out of them, you can easily get away with 2 2 channels. I know they sell brand name, brand new amps on ebay for a lot less than Fry's or Best Buy. I got my Boston Acoustics amp there for more than 60% off.

How do you plan on wiring them up though?

amps

For sure..I was going ebay or amazon. I always look for deals so I will probably stop in and see if they have anything on sale. I did see a nice MTX 2channel that would work for the 4x6s on amazone alas I' am at work. I don't usally post during the week. Wastes precious off work time lol. I would rather be watching a good movie or something instead of goofing off on the computer. I' am thinking about getting a better alt though with another small amp and a better one replacing the Monsoon and the new deck I will probably need one
