Well any of you that saw my thread in the off topic section saw that unfortunately my car was broken into and my stereo, amps and subs were taken. Well I'm starting to research what I would like to replace them with and thought I would get some input from everyone that is willing to help. I use to have 3 10" subs powered by a sony and an audiobahn amp but I think I was to go with 2 12" subs this time.

I was looking through Rockford's site because I was extremely happy with the Punch Stage 3 sub that I had and I found this "loaded enclosure" on their site. The page wasn't to big on specifics but I went on Crutchfield and found a lot more info.

Rockford Fosgate PL3-212

This is what I think I have decided on getting. Any thoughts on the subs/enclosure? I don't know much about ported enclosures as I have always had sealed boxes so any and all input is needed.

Also any ideas on what would be a good amp to power this? Something in the <$650-700 range would be ideal.

Thanks guys and gals!

My God! Push that thing any furthur and you won't be able to hear it.

I think you can find good subs for a tad cheaper.

I haven't heard the newer rockford sub but the old ones weren't that great. I'll agree with eag182 on this one. You should be able to find something better for that price.

yea the high end fosgates are good but you can get some mid end subs in another brand for way cheaper and they will be just as good.....fosgate isnt really known for there woofers, mainly there amps.....eclipse's are ok, i personally love jl audio...

and that set up you linked to the box wasnt even 3/4 inch thick, definately some better set ups out there....

forget that rockford crap, get yourself a MTX SLEDGEHAMMER box. i had a single 12 5500 dvc and it was LOUD, much louder than anything else in its price range

2 12" 5500's in a ported box
http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...2&1=611&3=3099

or

2 12" 7500's in a ported box
http://www.woofersetc.com/product.as...2&1=611&3=3340

dont go any lower than the 5500 series for MTX, i dont like the 4500's much. dont be fooled by the 2 12 box saying they can only take 600rms or 800rms. every independant test done on them (car audio magazine) said they can take 2x there listed power.....so throw them on a GOOD 800-1000watt rms amp (non of that overrated stuff) and you wont be disappointed. if you order one.....they make both 4 and 2 ohm enclousures...make sure you get the right one (probably a 2ohm enclousure

Soundstream has a relativly cheap but badass 900watt class D amp out there... i think its a edge or xtream series amp, ill ask my brother and get the model number. I know formulaNerd has a good link for getting cheap soundstream stuff....is it ebay?

jl w7 are extremely overpriced and I'm a huge jl audio fan. I personally would get a W6V2 over a W7 anyway. In my opinion the W6V2s sound way better and require less power and are a lot cheaper. A 13W6V2 will do about 90% of what a 13W7 will at about $250 less. If you can get JL but get them off of ebay or one of the online car audio forums.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll keep all that in mind.

Any opinions on ported boxes compared to sealed boxes?? Honestly I have only ever heard sealed and was wondering what differences there are between the 2.

Moving on to headunits I was looking at a Clarion today but on Crutchfields site it says that the unit I was looking at won't fit my car.

Clarion HeadUnit

Anyone know whether this will fit or how to make it fit?
Has anyone used Clarion products and how did you like them?

Thanks again everyone!!

the reason they say they wont fit is because we have this large useless piece of plastic right beind where the the deck sits, all you do is cut it out and ive heard its solved most headunit fitting problems, whether everyone fits i cant say but that could be the reason it says it wont fit.....

and the sealed, ported box question got asked last week i think.......if you know what you are doing, know the sub and its characteristics, know whats best for the kind of car you have than a ported box can be really good when you want a lot of bass......sealed box's are easier to deal with, no "tuning" involved, and the difference is a sealed box gives more of a solid punch like ud want for rock music but dont get me wrong, my sealed box and 2 jl audio 10's play lil jon and yeeeaaaahhh just fine lol........

Yeah they also said my Clarion headunit wouldn't fit in my car. bigd is right, you just have to bust out the plastic to create a little bit more room behind the left side of the head unit and it will fit fine.

basically...if you only listen to rap, you'll be good with ported, and ported is louder

if you like rock/rap/metal etc etc......you may want to consider a sealed

there is alot of personal preference, i like sealed of ported. even if its the proper ported box (which is more rare than you'd think) a ported box can easily sound like crap if its not to spec.

with the prices of stuff on ebay, dealer price isn't a whole lot better...lol

my bro's going to start carrying clarion pretty soon i think, the rep's comming out this week or next, cant remember. even better, he just starting getting distributor pricing on soundstream, since there's no distributors in mn, he is now.

hope he gets good deals on clarion, i really want a new deck, but im sure working for eclipse gets you better prices than what a dealer would pay for it.
