Buying Tires today.

So i'm buying new tires for my 16 inch stock wheels. I was thinking about buying used ones with 95% of its tread left on. It will cost me only 180 compared to 400 for brand new ones. Wondering what all of you think and have expierenced when buyin used tires? I was pretty skeptical at first, but my friend has talked me into it.

I have heard date is important, rubber compound changes over time. Here is an article to determine date. Not sure how old is too old.

I'd want to know where these used tires are made as well. If Chinese, then don't buy them. New tires made in China are already bad enough. Otherwise, if you can inspect them first, I'd buy them if they weren't too old. Having said that, I'm still driving on the original tires on my 1999 GL.

I've bought two sets of used tires and haven't had an issue, granted they weren't for my Alero but I don't think it matters.

we sell used tires at my work and no tire that we take in for used has less than 7/32 of tread left and really your not supposed to sell tires that are over 5 years old. after 5 years they are deemed unsafe for road use.

As long as the used tires will pass inspection, don't have any strange wear patterns and are a decent brand of tire I would say go for it.
