Hi guys. My 2001 alero gx has 35000 kms on it and I had to take it in for a nail in the tire. While it was being fixed the tech showed me something of concern. In between all the treads on the tires are hairline cracking all the way around. The tech was concerned about a blowout. They are BF Goodrich tires. Anyone else experience this? I would think this should be a warranty issue. If anyone has this problem and had them replaced let me know if you were able to do it at the dealership or did you have to go higher. I haven't started it myself yet but was interested to know if others had the same problem.
Thanks
Sparkey

Mine look the same way, but they have close to 50,000 miles on them. I don't know how long they've been that way, but at least a year. No blowouts yet. I've got the best two on the rears right now, but they'll be retiring after winter is over and the summer wheels/tires go back on. New snows for next winter.

I never noticed a problem with mine. I just had a new set put on cuz I wore out my old ones without any problems. Good to see another Calgary driver on the site. Check out the Calgary thread in the Canada forum. I don't think I've ever seen you driving around.

There was an earlier thread on this problem with the BF Goodrich tires I had. I called BF Goodrich: !-877-788-8899 & talked to "Bobby" (the only bobby there..man) & He told me to take the car in to a tire dealer that stocks BF Goodrich & have the dealer call him "Bobby" the tires were replaced minus the pro rate.....Good luck

Tires replaced on 11/03/03... milage:16,755... 2001 Alero..Touring T/A SR4 215/60R15

Well If the tires are cracked it would be common sense to get some new ones so you are dont have a blowout. Why take the chance of you having a blow out on the highway and then you get into a car accident! If I was you i would replace the tires as soon as i get the money!

I took mine to the Olds dealer and complained of noise and got all new ones. There is a tech bulletin out on this so take it in and complain.

Thanks Freeze, I will give the Canada number a try first. If everybody does this Goodrich is gonna hate Bobby! lol. Not a problem, Foff. I park the Alero for the winter, I'm using my beater, the first trip for the Alero is to the shop to have the tires replaced.

Interesting, Fast Eddie. I think I will try the dealership first. I had talked to a couple of guys at work who had goodrich tires and they felt, I had to take it up with the manufacturer of the tire. I suppose its a good thing here cause you can complain to the dealer, and if you get nothing there you can hit bf goodrich. Better chances with two than 1 dealer! lol. Freeze gave me the number for Bf goodrich so I will call them, and see what they have to say as well.

Sparkey...Good luck & keep us informed. I did not even have to argue the point with BF Goodrich they were VERY accomodating & the exchange was 123 --- now that is a good tire company!!

I will keep you guys informed, looks like they may be reasonable by the posts from fellow members here. Usually its a pull teeth when it comes to warranty work. So far other than the tires (and that's no real big deal) the alero has been a great car. I did find leakage behind the drivers seat on the floor board but that all I can complain about. Warranty is up in June so I better get my butt in gear and get these things fixed! Lol !
