Hey all,

a while back bought a WAI from some dude on ebay - so definetly not a K&N cone filter - just some generic brand. How do i clean the cone air filter?

would i be able to use the K&N recharge kit?

thx.

Well considering u dont know the brand, I would probably advise against cleaning it because if it is a generic brand then its not made to be reused...but correct me if im wrong anyone

if it isn't a cheapo paper filter cone, than you can probably clean it with the K&N kit. If not, toss it and buy a new K&N filter.

If you bought it from some guy on ebya its probably a cheap paper one, just replace it.

yeah it was like $35US off of ebay or something retardedly cheap like that... just to make sure (cuz it dont look like paper) i'll snap a pick of it up close and personal and post it 2nite/tomarrow (depending on what time i get in from work).

how much does a k&n cone filter go for anyways -- and my only restriction is cone size right? aka whatever fits into the space right? or is there a specific filter model for the alero blah blah?

thx..

There's only a specific filter if you are replacing the OEM (box filter) Otherwise you can basically go with which ever one has the right diameter at the mounting flange and which ever one will fit in the space you have available

check out the link below and it gives the type and sizes that are available
K & N air filters

I removed the upper part of the plastic stock air system. In fact I have the current cone air filter sitting in the bottom 1/2 of the plastic box that had the stock air filter in it! hehe (top 1/2 of plastic box removed obviously).

size wize: bigger the surface area of the air filter the better right? physics behind it: more exposable surface area of filter, more air that can be sucked into the filter? simple as that right? leading to: cylindrical filter prob have more surface area then conical of same size (in general)?

^ yeah, from what I've noticed the more surface area the better the results... I believe I have the biggest size wize that will fit using the WAI setup.. The part # RF-1025 w/chrome end cap. It is an 8" cone 5 1/2 at the bottom and 4 1/2" at the top...
