I'm trying to connect the amp wire to my battery in my 01 alero but there seems to be no place to connect them. there is only one screw and it is attached to the car electronics. there's no nut that i can take off and slip my wire into. please help

Depending on the gauge (as large as in that pic, no), you can also tap off where the battery cable connects to the underhood fuse block.

Ideally, you'd also upgrade the wiring from the battery to there (say to 2ga or 0ga wire), and THEN tap off.

you have multiple choices...
1. posted above
2. pictured above
3. buy a dual post battery with both top and side posts for connections and then buy the correct mount for the positive top post connection for the stereo wire

go to walmart, there is a thing that goes onto the post over the stock connection and has ports on the end of it to attach a few different wires.

Advance Auto and Auto Zone sell a "GM Short Post Adapter". It has the screw and a nut on the other side to add accessories.

That link has how it looks like.
