so this saga begins last wednesday. freezing rain was coming down and i failed to stop, slid through a stop sign on a T-type stop (where you have to either go left or right - there is no straight...unless you're me). i was turning left and brakes didn't work and i slid into the curb on the other side of the intersection. long story short, alignment = effed. took it to the dealership on tuesday morning for the alignment, getting the suspension fixed, getting the driver's side window put back on track, getting my passenger side fog light fixed, and an oil change and tire rotation. i drop it off at 7:45 and get a call at 11:00. the dealership says that for my window, they need to order a new inner track and that + installation will be around $450. the fog light bracket that broke will cost me $250 (because they want to replace all of the plastic around it that broke off too), and the passenger side suspension will cost me $750 (which includes replacing a broken "sway rod pin", inner tie rod, lower control arm, and a 4 wheel alignment). i proceeded to tell them i would call them back in a second.

EDIT: i'll try to get the rest of this in before school.

so i called a place that my girlfriend's brother takes his car. i told them what had happened and what GM wanted to do. they told me that for what GM wanted to do, the most they would charge for the suspension for the exact same things that GM wanted to do was $500. they told me to bring the car down to them ASAP so that they can take a look at it because the GM techs likely replaced a lot more than was necessary. i didn't even call the dealership back. i was there in 5 minutes to pick up my car when they proceeded to tell me that i had to pay them $120. i asked them why in the F i had to pay them money. they charged me $60 to tell me that it would be $450 to put my window back on track (order and install a new inner track) and $750 to fix my suspension. after screaming at them for about 15 minutes, i shelled out the cash and told them that today was the last day that my car would ever come anywhere near that service garage. i drove my car to the new place where they, in 15 minutes, were able to tell me that they would be replacing the lower control arm, a wheel bearing, and that they would need to replace the rotors and pads, and would be doing a 4-wheel alignment. they told me that the inner tie rod looked fine but had no idea what the sway link pin was. they said it would cost me about $800 and i had said ok. so yesterday around 2:30, i get a call saying my car is done. i go and pick it up and it's about $750. i drive off and the car driver's better than new, although there is a knocking sound which i've been able to pinpoint to the inner tie rod that they said was in fine shape. i called them and told them and they said that since they mistakenly told me it was fine, they'd replace it for free. i'm going back there next week to get new cooper cobras on for 300 mounted and balanced for all 4 and they said that they would do the tie rod then. ok, that's it.

[/end rant]

that sucks dude, let them do the window and the suspension...but IMO id hold off on the fog light problem, you could probably find it a lot cheaper at a scrap yard or somewhere like that and do it yourself and save yourself a lot of dough

Yeah I agree on the foglight but everything else is kind of important. You may be able to get cheaper though if you go to a reputable mechanic instead of a dealership.

Could have been worse, your suspension could have done what mine did and completely collapse. Only thing that was holding my front passenger wheel on was the brake line. That was a sick sight. $2700 in damage. Grrr....stupid tie rod snapped when I slammed on my brakes and then I went for the ride of my life.
