Fan blower resistor

02 Alero.. So I replaced the fan blower resistor because none of the fan speeds would work. Eventually the max setting didn't work either... Now that it's replaced and a week later it's doing the same thing. How could I be blowing resistors so quickly?

All the fuses are good.. Like I said the new resistor worked for a week on all speed settings. Now it works until it's warmed up and then blows a tiny bit of hot air. Not enough to keep the car warm, its freezing

I would start at the switch and do a voltage drop on the system. See where the drop off is and then you will find your problem

Did you check the connection on the blower motor? I have seen them melt before.

How did your old blower resistor look when you pulled it out? Did it look melted like rustyballs_69 mentioned or like it had water damage? Reason I ask is because when I had my Intrigue the blower resistor went out while I was at the car wash one day. Apparently water had managed to leak in there and fried the resistor and when I pulled it out it looked all melted. So I would also check and see if there is any water getting in there somehow.

Good call on the water damage, I have seen that too. Usually after getting the car washed or a heavy rain.

I had similar problem. U actually looked at the ac heater control assembly. Knobs were shot. Bought one off eBay for 25$. Installed and all settings work now

Thanks man and yeah I found that one out the hard way lol. Nothing like losing your A/C at the car wash on a hot and humid 90 degree summer day.

Glad to hear it's fixed and that all is working as it should.

I don't recall the piece showing any damage... Also just to add more info with the troubleshoot.. The heat used to work until the cars temp is at the halfway mark then it would barely blow air.. Now it doesn't function at all and it seems once it's fully warmed up it will blow a tiny bit of air on the max setting.

I do have a crack near the thermostat on the lower intake manifold.. But I don't think this would cause the problem? Also my e fans don't work either. So I have to diag that as well... I'm definitely having second thoughts on these cars. To many problems. Also my v6 fuel economy is about 350km to a tank which is terrible. My 87 rx7 turbo with 220rwhp had the same fuel economy..

I've tried almost everything to correct the fuel economy.. New ngk wires, laser plugs, new fuel filter, fuel system clean, oil change, and air filter looks good. I'm stumped..

laser plugs? heat concern, is there air blowing from the vents and just not hot, or no air coming from the vents?

How about the Coils? When the coils go bad, the spark is weak and gives you bad MPG

I would just pull the resistor and check the ohms readings on all the resistors. If it's correct, you need to look elsewhere. Also try running electricity for the blower fan directly off the battery and report back.
