Timing chain replacement
Does anyone know when the recommended time would be to change the timing chains on the ecos.
I've got 125,000km, and think its probably due.

Yeah it sure couldn't hurt...really look at the tracks of the serpentine and see if you have an perpendicular cracks that cross the entire width of the belt. I know that an outside crack would definitely need changing

From all I have heard, Timing chains service should be done after only 200 000km. However, a Timing BELT should be changed after 100 000km.
I don't know what is in the ecotec.

yeah I'm just kinda scared b/c I heard some horror stories about the chains snapping in the ecos prematurely.

Yeah, belts usually get changed at a certain mileage or when excessive wear is present. A chain (like on the Eco) will last a pretty long time without having to be changed. So I'd say unless you're having problems with it right now, you'll still be good for a while.
The Ecotec was pretty much over-engineered and built to handle a lot. I doubt anything you've heard about snapped timing chains is true.

It was only the older Ecotecs that had issues with their chains snapping. There was something wrong with the tensioner and/or lubrication system for it. There's a way to tell if yours has the updated stuff, it's posted at http://www.z22se.co.uk/

I wouldn't worry. I've never had to do that on any of my vehicles.... or any vehicles at my place. My dads old truck had 455,000kms on it too...
