Our cars came with hood shocks? Mine is just a prop rod. When did they change over?

edit: opps. did a search for hood and was looking through the results. didnt realize this was so old. I'm hopefully getting around to putting my new hood on tomorrow and was just wondering if I would come across any tips on here. Just looks like a bunch of bolts and what not. A little concerned about alignment. But I guess I'll figure it out.

ya, its a bit difficult to get it all lined up. you will definitely need help with it, its not a one man job. just get all the bolts in and a little bit snug. close the hood and make sure its lined up right, carefully open the hood and tighten everything. one thing that makes it easy is that the bolts and washers holding it on leave a spot without paint on the hinge, so that helps line it up. good luck.

yea but u need the hinges and struts and where the top of the strut meets the hood theres a little plate that got 3 plug welds to the hood. u gotta drill out the plugs to get it off then measure, measure again and measure once more for good measure lol
then weld em to ur hood. or u could just buy the hood with struts and have it color matched to the rest of ur car. ive been workin on this for awhile not hard if u have an alero with struts at ur nearby yard

Just put on the new hood earlier with the help of my bf. Much easier than I thought. Bolts all came out and went back in smoothly and got the alignment perfect on the first shot. woot.

Looks so much better than the 9 year old las vegas sun damaged and weathered hood that was on it before (plus it had a dent in the middle front that was an eyesore). Now just need to get it painted, which being honest.. probably won't happen lol.

Got a good deal on craigslist on a new hood and spoiler for 125 bucks so I figured why not. But putting another 300 to get the hood painted is a bit much for me to justify spending right now. But we'll see. Maybe in a few months.

End of thread hijack.
